130/80 mm hg is considered as elevated blood pressure for all age groups as per the recent guidelines.Measure her blood pressure reading in the morning and evening for 3-5 days.Make sure while measuring the BP ,she is supine or sitting upright with your legs uncrossed .Take 3 readings, don't consider the first reading and take average of last 2 readings.
These days we don't link the normal reading of BP with the age of the patient. It is a holistic approach where all factors including symptoms of the patient are considered.
Hello there! My name is Dr. Nikhil Aggarwal. For an 80 year old female, the normal blood pressure range would be between 120-140 mmHg systolic and 70-90 mmHg diastolic. However, it is important to consider an elderly patient's overall health status and medical history in determining their optimal blood pressure target.
For an 80 year old woman, I would recommend aiming for a blood pressure below 150/90 mmHg as a general goal. However, for a woman in good health with no major medical issues, I may recommend a slightly lower target of 140/90 mmHg or even lower. The most important thing is treating any high blood pressure symptoms slowly and carefully in elderly patients due to increased risks of side effects from medications.
To make a chart for proper diagnosis and monitoring of an elderly woman's blood pressure, I would track readings over time with the following information:
Date - Time - Location (right arm, left arm, etc.) - Position (sitting, lying down) - Systolic reading - Diastolic reading
Noting the time, location and position of readings can help determine if any factors are influencing the results.
Tracking a patient's blood pressure over several visits and adjusting medications gradually allows us to determine their optimal blood pressure target while avoiding potential complications.
Does this information help? Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to discuss your 80 year old patient's specific case further if that would be useful.
