Established in 1957 and taken over by the Karnataka government in 1970, KMIO has grown into a state-of-the-art facility, providing comprehensive cancer care to patients from across the country.With 863 hospital beds (including 106 ICU beds) and an additional 407 beds in ‘Dharmashala’ for outstation patients, KMIO ensures accessible treatment for all. As one of India's largest cancer centers, the institute houses seven linear accelerators, three brachytherapy units, four CT scanners, and an MRI for advanced radiation therapy. It is also the first government hospital in India to offer permanent implant brachytherapy with radioactive iodine seeds.KMIO specializes in bone marrow transplants (BMT), having successfully performed India’s first allogenic BMT in a government hospital at minimal patient cost.
