You may not care much for what people think about your looks, but we all can accept that older-looking skin is not what we want.

Premature wrinkles and dull, discoloured skin are two main aspects of older-looking skin that can easily be avoided.

Ageing is a natural process and some of us show signs of accelerated ageing. The reason for this can either be because of your genetic structure (which is out of your control) or extrinsic factors, which relate to your lifestyle habits and your skincare routine.

Skin ageing is influenced by many extrinsic factors including ultraviolet radiation, excess alcohol consumption, tobacco abuse, and environmental pollution. In addition, unhealthy life style habits result in increased body weight  blood sugar levels, which leads to  biochemical reactions disrupt the very structural framework of their skin. Combined, these factors lead to cumulative deterioration in skin appearance and function.

Healthy tips for the prevention of skin ageing

Prevention is always better than cure

Sun protection: Application of a quality sunscreen or a total sunblock is  the most important step in the  prevention of ageing . Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you step out. If you’ve been out in the sun for a few hours, touch it up again every 2 hrs so that you’re well protected. If you can, try and stay indoors between 11am and 3pm. That’s when the sun’s rays are the strongest and can have an adverse effect on  your skin.

Skincare: Once you’ve crossed your mid-twenties, it is important that you take good care of your skin. You may feel that it’s unnecessary, especially if there aren’t any prominent signs of ageing, but your skin will thank you for it later. Invest in a good cleanser and moisturiser. Going in for occasional peels or medi-facials will go a longway in keeping wrinkles at bay

Lifestyle -Quit smoking and restricts your alcohol intake - both of which  can result in dull, listless skin. Make sure to follow an exercise routine, as it improves your metabolism, which goes on to maintain your skin tone. Reducing stress is another important tip that will prevent skin from ageing. Finally, remember to follow a healthy, balanced diet. If the pigment  spots, fine lines and wrinkles  are already present, do not panic, consult a Dermatologist. Several options are available to you, like:

Chemical peels , Microderm abrasion, Qswitched lasers and Mesotherapy .

A chemical peel, also called chemexfoliation or derma peeling, is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck and hands.

Microdermabrasion(MDA) also referred as microresurfacing, is a dermatosurgical procedure used for mechanical exfoliation of skin. MDA is commonly referred as body polishing and uses a mechanical medium as aluminum oxide crystals at high pressure to remove the outermost layer of stratum corneum from the epidermis. It is a painless and noninvasive procedure, performed in office by dermatologist. MDA is a simple safe and commonly used treatment modality yields mild but measurable improvement after repeated sessions.

Helios II Qswitched  laser skin rejuvenation is an  non-invasive laser treatment that uses light energy to gently stimulate collagen growth deep under your skin, which will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, restore the skin from sun damage, remove dark spots and sun spots and decrease open pores safely. The effects of laser treatment will continue after the treatment and you will see the result after neocollagenosis. The laser also breaks the melanosomes and absorbed by body defence mechanisms.

Although you'll see immediate results, however improvement would be seen gradually. It is recommended to take 4 to 6 sessions in 3 to 4 weeks gap for each session.

Mesotherapy – (Meso glow)  It refers to minimally invasive techniques which consist of the use of intra- dermalinjections containing liquid mixture of compounds (skin lightening agents ) to treat local medical and cosmetic conditions. It is a debatable addition in thetherapeutic armamentarium in the management of skin rejuvenation.
