I feel rainy season is the most fascinating things that the nature has gifted us .In Indian homes; rain ensures preparation of snacks in the kitchen. But do you know, Ayurveda explains some interesting food facts which are significant for good health.

Humidity in environment affects our body also. VATA, one of the dosha gets vitiated and turns into slowing down the digestion plus the atmosphere changes results into various diseases like Rhinitis, Diarrhea,Colitis, Joint pain, Skin allergies.

Meals which pacify vata, easy to digest, hot, fresh should be taken mainly taking sour, salty and oily food items helps to pacify vata dosha. Salty snacks made of ghee and oil are useful. Intake of mango and milk is beneficial.

FOODS TO INDULGE

Like: old grains like wheat, Jaw (Barley), Sathi rice (Red rice) Maize, Mustard seeds, Rai (Black mustard seeds), Cucumber, Khichadi, Moong (Green gram), Arahar (Red Gram) are to be taken.

Vegetables like: Bottle Gourd, Lady Finger, Tori (Ridge Gourd), Tomato, Podina chutney (Mint), Vegetable soup. Fruits like: Banana, Apple, Pomegranate, Jamun (Black Plum), and ripe mango 

Buttermilk taken with Clove, Black pepper,Ginger powder, Kala namak (Rock salt), Carom  seed  powder (Ajawain) and Black salt (kala namak) to increases digestive power.          

FOODS TO AVOID

Green leafy vegetables, cold and dry foods like,Chana (Bengal gram), Masur (Red lentils), Jwar (New quinoa), Moth (Mat bean) ,Udad(Black gram), Peas, Potato, Jack fruit, Singhada, Bitter gourd, Sattu  with  water are not good for health. Excessive workouts are forbidden. Curd consumption at night should be strictly avoided.Cleanliness of environment and personal hygiene should be taken care.

A good tip to improve digestion is to ingest one fourth teaspoon of HARAD (Harde) and SAINDAVA LAVANA (Rock salt) each in equal quantities with warm water before going to bed. To overcome the side effects of our modern lifestyle, Ayurveda is the need of the hour. I think we Indians have an ancient heritage of Ayurveda through our grandparents in various aspects of our lives. Although we need a right direction also by knowing it fundamentally.
