Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), characterised by a common endocrinopathy, is a significant cause of distress to most women affected by it.

PCOS is the most common complex heterogenous metabolic, endocrine and reproductive disorder; characterized by the presence of Polycystic Ovaries, Menstrual Dysfunction, Infertility, Biochemical (Elevated Androgens) and Clinical Hyperandrogenism.

PCOS women are at a heightened risk of Obesity, Dyslipidemia and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It also increases the risk of fetal abnormalities, miscarriages and complications during pregnancy including premature deliveries and neonatal complications. PCOS also promotes psychological morbidity including Depression, Poor Body Image and Self-esteem and reduced health-related quality of life.

So how should one deal with such a stressing disorder?

Well, here is the solution:

aerobic exercise
  • AEROBIC EXERCISE: because  all medications have potential side effects, weight loss by physical activity should be the 1st line of treatment
  • RESISTANCE EXERCISE: can be done under the supervision of a physiotherapist. A different form of exercise catering to building muscle strength.
  • KAYAKALP YOGA: there are various poses of yoga specifically helping in cyst forming problems
  • MEDITATION: nothing helps more than inner peace of mind.
    • LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION: cut out on carbs, bread, processed foods.
