- Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties.
- When wisdom teeth are misaligned they may position themselves horizontally or be angled.
- Poor alignment of wisdom teeth can crowd or damage adjacent teeth ,the jaw bone or nerve.
- Wisdom teeth also can be impacted many times within the soft tissue or jawbone or only partially erupt through gum.
- Partial eruption allows an opening for bacteria to enter around the tooth and cause infection ,which results in pain ,swelling, jaw stiffness ,difficulty in mouth opening.
- Wisdom teeth do not always have to be removed. They are only extracted when they are impacted or causing other issues
- Not everyone actually has wisdom teeth. Some people have them beneath the gums, some people have one or two and some people don’t have any.
- The greatest of all myths is Wisdom teeth removal causes vision disturbances. No removing upper teeth or for that matter any teeth effects a persons eyesight. The nerves which supply eyes and teeth are different hence ,no interconnection.
- Through dental x-rays or routine check-ups dentist can keep a tab on the wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict way that wisdom teeth will erupt.
- Not always Wisdom tooth extraction is painful and complicated. Upper molars are easier to remove than lower molars it all depends on the tooth anatomy , curvature of the roots and location ofthe teeth either it is erupted or impacted . Effective local anaesthesia renders least amount of pain to the patients. The local anaesthesia desensitizes a patient to pain during an extraction sothat there is not much discomfort while removal of teeth . Note that there maybe some amount of pain after the procedure.
