Masturbation is a natural sexual activity that most people do at some point in their lives. Some people masturbate more than others.

People often ask me the question, what is normal?

My answer to them is that there is NO “normal” frequency, but if a person masturbates so much that it affects daily life, that is a cause for concern.

There is scientific evidence regarding the frequency of the same from a study conducted in the United States of America. According to the study, respondents of all ages masturbated. Masturbation is more frequent for young adults right from teenage years since sexual contact is limited. This number also goes up in elderly people for the same reasons, as their contact too is limited at times.

Frequency varies in men from few times per month to weekly.

It is estimated that roughly 20% men masturbate 2 to 3 times each week. Less than 20% masturbate more than 4 times a week. Most of the women masturbated once a week or less in the same study.

The more worrisome question for people is: How much masturbation is too much?

The answer depends on the person. No activity should be compulsive or one which interferes with personal/professional life or relationships. Masturbating more than four times each week is not necessarily a problem, which people often think is.

Why do some people enjoy masturbation than real sexual activity ?

The performance anxiety in masturbation is much lesser and the person can fantasize beyond what normally occurs in his/her sexual life. Also the availability of the time for this activity is more convenient for some people not bound by external factors

The most important thing to remember, that addiction to anything is not okay, but everything in moderation is acceptable, and so is the case with masturbation.

IT IS NORMAL TO MASTURBATE, SO DO NOT BE ASHAMED ABOUT IT.
