LINGUAL BRACES

WHAT ARE LINGUAL BRACES....

Lingual braces are one of the "invisible" treatment methods for straightening of teeth.

These are specialized dental braces that are mounted on the backside ( tongue side) of of your teeth.

This hides them from view, making them invisible to others.

However, unlike standard metal braces, lingual braces are attached behind the teeth rather than in front, making them essentially invisible to other people.

HISTORY

Dr. Craven Kurz , California ,USA developed Lingual Braces in order to provide braces treatment to patients which could not be seen by others.

At the same time in Japan, Professor Fujita had also developed his own way of doing lingual braces.

Advantages

 1.Not visible.

 They are not easily detected.

2.allows the dentist more control over your teethth movements.

Disadvantages

1. takes time for patients to get used to

2. Each appointment you have during your treatment process will takes longer as compared to conventional braces.

3. may interfere with the patient's bite

However, with continued advancements in the design of lingual systems many of these disadvantages have been overcome. (sophisticated CAD/CAM and robotic wire-bending technology )

The steps of getting lingual dental braces.

1.A detailed, high-accuracy dental impression.

A very accurate and detailed impressions of your upper and lower teeth are done.

These impressions are then sent to the dental laboratory that will make your lingual braces and wires pack

.

B) Fabricating your braces. The orthodontic laboratory will make casts from the impressions and as  per your doctors instructions, create a "setup" of your case by modifying these casts.

Custom brackets are computer designed for each tooth using CAD/ CAM and robotic wire technology..

Once fabricated, the brackets are embedded into an applicator tray

This trey will fit over your teeth and hold your brackets in correct and desired allignment.

C) Attaching your braces to your teeth.

An appointment will be made with you and your lingual braces can be attached to your teeth.

Conclusion; Not only are lingual braces, an invisible mode of getting your braces treatment done; they are also highly specialized .However, having said that, the final result brings a smile to your and your dentists face. In the many patients that we have done at SMILESSENCE SPECIALIST DENTAL CENTRE, we have found that after a few weeks of initial getting used to, most of the patients feel proud and happy that their braces are invisible to the outside world and except for the patient and the dentist, no one knows how , day by day, the teeth are getting aligned
