Navratri is here! It is the season of feeling and looking your best while celebrating Goddess Durga with faith, fun, songs, and dance.

It is important to take care of your skin and hair during this time, to elevate your looks and enhance your confidence.

Let’s have a look at some tips to make sure your skin and hair are perfect this Navratri.

1. Prep Your Skin

A few minutes of preparation go a long way in keeping your skin radiant throughout the nine days of fun and frolic.

  • Wash your face with a cleanser or face wash.

  • Exfoliate with a face scrub to remove the build-up of dead skin cells, sweat, dirt, and oil.

  • Apply a refreshing face pack to make your skin soft and improve your skin tone.

  • Use a toner on your skin to soothe, nourish, and hydrate the skin while restoring its delicate pH balance.

  • Apply a nourishing moisturiser on your face and neck.

2. Mask is a Must

A face mask is the perfect answer to your skincare concerns. The right face mask can hydrate your skin, remove excess oils, and help improve the appearance of your pores.

Masks also help pull out impurities from your skin. They can deliver high concentrations of active ingredients to plump, hydrate, and balance your skin.

3. Always Opt For Waterproof Makeup

Navratri falls in the humid month of October. All that dancing can make you excessively sweaty.

Waterproof makeup will ensure that your eyeliner, lipstick, and foundation are in place.

  • Choose a light foundation. Do not go all out with your foundation because when you sweat, the foundation will start to look cakey.
  • Remember to remove your makeup before sleeping, no matter how tired you are.

4. Pamper Your Hair

Shampoo and condition your hair after a night-out to remove the dirt and sweat in your hair, and keep them soft and manageable.

Opt for a sulfate-free shampoo if you wish to wash your hair every day, as it will be mild on your hair and prevent scalp dryness. For dull hair, apply a quick conditioning treatment before you shampoo.

To make a conditioning hair mask:

  • Mix one teaspoon of vinegar and almond oil
  • Massage into the hair. Wrap a towel soaked in hot water over your hair.
  • Wash your hair after half an hour.
  • Your hair will look smooth, bouncy, and shiny.

5. Take Care of Your Hands and Feet

Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure well before Navratri begins. If you do not have time for one, rub a mixture of sugar and lemon juice on your hands and legs and scrub slowly. Wash it off with water and apply a moisturising cream for smooth and soft skin.

If you have aching feet from dancing your heart out, fill a tub with hot water, add 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, and 5 or 6 drops of lavender (alternatively basil or rosemary) essential oil to it.

Soak your feet in the tub and relax. You can even add marbles into your foot bath and roll your feet over them to massage your feet.

6. Prevent Skin Allergies

The jewellery and costumes you use during Navratri could make you sweat profusely, cause irritation and give you red rashes, itchiness, pricks, and boils in some cases.

Remember to remove your jewellery before sleeping. Wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth to remove the sweat and grime on it. This helps maintain the jewellery and reduces the chances of allergies.

If you see any rashes or other symptoms, remove your makeup gently with baby oil. Apply ice compresses on the affected area. and consult a dermatologist to treat any major skin issues.

7. Get Some Sleep

Navratri can involve late-night celebrations and hence you need to look out for puffy eyes and dark circles. The best way to prevent these is by getting enough sleep. Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night.

You can also apply cucumber slices to your eyes. It is high in water content and vitamin K, which refreshes your tired eyes.

Cucumber is also very effective in reducing the appearance of dark circles, and hydrating and soothing the skin around your eyes.

8. Hydrate

It is easy to forget to hydrate yourself in a busy and fun schedule during Navratri. However, you could end up being dehydrated and it would show on your skin.

Choose from healthy options such as water, fresh juices, lime water, and coconut water. These drinks will hydrate your body and give your skin a glow from within.

Along with these tips, remember to eat healthily this Navratri for good skin and hair, most importantly if you are fasting. Enjoy the festival with all your heart but continue to take COVID-related precautions.

Happy Navratri!
