Weight gain....

Hellow doctor... I am a guy 20 years old. My height is 5 feet 7 inch but my weight is too low which is about 40Kg. What should I do to put some weight?? My friends says eat more. How much should I eat? can you suggest me a diet ?? I feel hungry but gets full in small meals. Also how much water is needed daily?? History - I was underweight from school and also short.
