I have had dark underarms for a while so I stopped waxing. Now that I started again the darkness around the underarms has increased and spread. Please suggest. Thanks.

It seems bacterial infection is also present, try using benzyl peroxide wash , and underarm roll on like sweatnil roll on , it has both depigmenting and sweat control properties

Heya young lady ...
Understand your concern.
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a notoriously difficult condition to reverse.
In your case, I would first start by treating for any treatable issues like an Intertrigo/Erythema (some more pics and a simple test..scraping for KOH will be required).
Then once the primary issue is sorted, let's tackle the pigmentation.
Kindly 📥 using this App's INSTANT ONLINE Consultation & if you travelling via Bangalore, then do connect as the erstwhile pharmacy linked clinic I used to consult at, churna up some special lotions and potions made in-house that may help your issue.
Happy to first recommend a commercially available product before you get to this as note you are Delhi based.
Godspeed 🙏
This is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) due to waxing, firstly stop waxing for now
Treatment is available
Detailed medical history needs to be assessed before starting you on your personalised treatment plan
The darkness is looking like a post inflammatory pigmentation also..Darkness of the underarms can also be due to deodorants..due to allergens in wax used..or increased BMI..need detailed history for further evaluation
• Most likely post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) due to waxing/irritation + friction
• Can also be worsened by deodorants, sweat, or mild fungal/dermatitis changes
Next steps
• Stop waxing temporarily → switch to trimming/laser later
• Morning: moisturizer + sunscreen (yes, even underarms if exposed)
Helpful tips / Words of caution
• Avoid harsh waxing, deodorants with alcohol/fragrance
• Keep area dry, wear loose cotton clothes
• Do not over-exfoliate → can worsen pigmentation
• Results take 6–8 weeks minimum
Kindly consult with me via Practo for detailed evaluation and treatment
Yes waxing can incite allergic reaction plus trauma friction all stimulates pigment formation cells hence pigmenting is possible best way is laser hair reduction chemical peeling or laser tonning can be added on to reduce pigmentation
