Teeth Grinding
Hi, I have been told I have a habit of grinding my teeth at night which makes a loud noise. It happens during my deep sleep and somedays I feel my jaws ache when I wake up. What do you suppose is the reason for this and how can I stop doing this.

There is some thing called bite guard. Visit dentist, she or he will help you to get the appliance done. To break that habit. Depending upon the necessities in one or both jaws it would need to be made.

Hi, grinding teeth in the night is a sign of breathing insufficiency or difficulty in the sleep. When there is breathing issue in the sleep body responds by grinding teeth which is way of bringing the lower jaw forward which I turn opens the airway to make you breath better. You should consult a ENT surgeon who focuses on sleep followed by a dental sleep medicine specialist

There are multiple factors involved in night grinding of teeth called bruxism. 1. Malalligned teeth : upper & lower teeth don’t intercuspate properly while one closes the mouth, so he/she has to slide & close . It causes incoordinated muscle activity. 2. Improper breathing while sleeping. I normally give a proper occlusal splint in such cases with frequent followup. Nightguard merely doesn’t solve the problem.
