Taking protein powder
Hi, I am a 23 year old female. Pure vegetarian, no eggs. Weight is 89 kgs, and since 8 weeks I have been exercising. Around 1 hour every day. I have started eating healthy since 10 days, I track my food, eat less than maintenance calories. But my protein intake is very less. I want to take Whey Protein Isolate to increase protein intake without increasing carbs. But is it okay to take and worth it to take the supplement or I should do something else to increase protein intake. Right now it is only 50% of what the daily intake should be.

Hello, I can understand your concern about your protein intake as you have also started to exercise and you are taking care of your intake. Connect with us for a personalized diet session as it will allow to understand your routine, lifestyle, exercise & other details to help you better with your protein intake. Good sources of vegetarian protein are low fat milk, low fat curd, thick dals, sprouts, tofu, soya, quinoa as it has all the essential amino acids, etc. Requirements of nutrients vary from an individual to individual. It is therefore important to assess current intake and know your details. That said, a right balance of carbs and proteins should be maintained to ensure that the protein consumed is used for improving lean muscle mass and not utilized for energy.

However I would suggest you to consider that individual requirements and suitability as well as recommendations are different based on lot of other details except height, weight or age alone. Hello! Good to know that you are watching what you eat. Whey protein can be taken after your work out , but it does not increase your daily protein intake. It will simply make sure you have good muscle recovery and don’t lose more protein. You can add paneer, tofu, soya milk, sprouts , buttermilk and yogurt, dry fruits and nut, mushrooms-these are good quality, high protein snacks. A high protein health supplement may also be required. A detailed assessment is necessary to provide a suitable diet plan with protein balance.

Consult on practo for further advice
