Dear , Swelling after a root canal's first seating is uncommon but manageable. Possible causes: 1. Infection spread: Bacteria migration beyond the tooth. 2. Instrumentation beyond the apex (root tip). 3. Over-instrumentation. 4. Allergic reaction to materials. Open dressing: Your dentist's prompt action helps: 1. Drain accumulated pus. 2. Reduce pressure. Next steps: 1. Monitor swelling and pain. 2. Antibiotics (if prescribed) for 5-7 days. 3. Follow-up appointments. Ensure: 1. Your son completes antibiotic course. 2. Good oral hygiene. 3. Soft food diet. Reassuring facts: 1. Swelling usually subsides within 2-3 days. 2. Open dressing helps resolve infection. Questions to ask your dentist: 1. What's the expected recovery time? 2. Are additional X-rays needed? 3. Any changes in medication? Stay calm; your dentist is addressing the issue. Best regards, Dr. Pratikshit Anand Additional guidance: - Watch for fever, increased swelling, or discharge. - Encourage gentle saltwater rinses. - Schedule follow-ups as advised. Please consult your dentist for personalized advice.

Hello, Warm regards. Pre treatment swelling takes a few days to settle even with root canal therapy. Once the root canal therapy is in the completion your child may feel better. Take medications as prescribed and go for regular follow ups. If any antibiotics are given, kindly complete the dosage. Take care.
