This discomfort with poor sleep is commonly due to acidity/GERD or anxiety-related gastric discomfort. Avoid late meals and spicy food, and please consult for proper evaluation and treatment.

Hello According to the complaints, it’s most likely to be gastric reflux /GERD Which is very common nowadays Also, it can be worse because of periods I would suggest incorporating few changes in your lifestyle first and those are- 1. Starting your day with some alkaline food, like you can incorporate one banana in the morning. 2. Avoid taking tea or coffee, first thing in the morning and also in the late evening as well. 3. Finish your dinner at least three hours before you sleep. 4. After every meal do not just lay down, try to stand straight or walk for at least 10-15 minutes. After every meal. 5. Avoid very spicy, fried food, and soft drinks 6. Avoid having fruits or milk in the breakfast. 7. Also raise the height of the head end of your bed or use pillow, raise your head. Incorporate the changes first and see if the problem is getting better with these changes or not. If not, then you need a proper prescription which should be tailored according to your need and your current health situation and for that I need a proper detailed history for that, you can consult me on Practo
Next Steps
Incorporate the lifestyle changes, which I suggested
Health Tips
1. avoid tea and coffee, first thing in the morning 2. Avoid having very spicy fried food. 3. Avoid having sugar Canned beverages. 4. Take a short walk after every meal for at least 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Finish your dinner at least three hours before your bedtime.

Most likely could be GERD. Avoid spicy, fatty food, take small frequent meals, with evening meals at least 2 hours before sleeping. Take tab pantaprazole 20mg one morning and one evening. Syp mucaine gel 5m.l. every 8hours. Try sleeping at a fixed time daily, so the body cycle gets adapted to it.

Based on what you’ve described, this pattern strongly suggests a functional gastrointestinal cause, most commonly acid reflux / gastritis / GERD, rather than a heart, thyroid, or sugar-related problem (which you’ve already ruled out with tests). Key points supporting this: • Discomfort in upper abdomen / below the breastbone (epigastric area) • Symptoms worsen at night and disturb sleep • Occasional back pain (reflux pain can radiate) • Temporary relief when you took acidity/gastric medication • Anxiety around sleep can amplify symptoms, even if it’s not the root cause Hormonal changes around periods can trigger or worsen reflux, but once the stomach lining is irritated, symptoms can persist even after periods end.
Next Steps
What you should do now: 1. Medication (short-term, doctor-guided) • A PPI (like pantoprazole / esomeprazole) once daily before breakfast • Add an antacid or alginate (after dinner or before bed) • If bloating or heaviness is prominent → a prokinetic may help 2. Night-time precautions (very important) • Eat dinner at least 3 hours before sleep • Avoid lying flat immediately after meals • Elevate head end of bed by 4–6 inches • Avoid tea, coffee, chocolate, spicy/fried food in the evening 3. If symptoms persist beyond 2–3 weeks • Get evaluated for H. pylori • Consider upper GI evaluation if pain, weight loss, vomiting, or anemia appear
Health Tips
• This condition is very common and treatable, but needs consistency, not just 1–2 days of medicines • Poor sleep itself worsens gastric symptoms → it becomes a vicious cycle • Avoid Googling cardiac causes once ECG is normal — it increases anxiety and worsens reflux • Gentle walking after dinner helps digestion significantly • Warm fluids (not very hot) before bed may reduce discomfort

If you had relief previously with antacids, the pain probably should be due to hyperacidity and abdominal gases. Try a small course of antacid again. If it does not help or symptoms recur after few days, we’ll have to opt for proper consultation for further assessment.

Dear Patient, Your difficulty sleeping along with upper abdominal discomfort, mild back pain, and restlessness may be related to gastric irritation, acid reflux, or stress. Since your ECG, thyroid, and blood sugar are normal, and temporary relief was seen with acidity medicines, the symptoms are likely functional rather than serious. Sleep disturbance can also worsen abdominal discomfort, creating a cycle. What you should do - Avoid heavy, spicy, or oily meals, especially 2–3 hours before bedtime - Sleep with head slightly elevated - Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation before bed - Maintain a consistent sleep schedule and reduce screen time at night - Light exercise during the day can help improve sleep Medicines - Continue mild antacids or proton pump inhibitors if recommended by your doctor - Avoid overuse of painkillers unless necessary consult me - Persistent severe upper abdominal pain, vomiting, or blood in stool - Unexplained weight loss or worsening back pain - Severe sleep disturbance affecting daily activities For further guidance and personalized treatment you may consult me on Practo anytime.
