After a scaling process, the gums may experience some sensitivity and inflammation, but they should start to heal relatively quickly. The healing time can vary from person to person, but in general, it takes about 1 to 2 weeks for the gums to heal after scaling. During this healing period, it's essential to take proper care of the oral cavity to facilitate the healing process. Your cousin should follow these general guidelines: Avoid Irritants: It's advisable to avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 to 48 hours after the scaling procedure. Both alcohol and smoking can irritate the gums and delay the healing process. Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Encourage your cousin to maintain excellent oral hygiene during the healing period. Regular brushing and flossing, as well as using a gentle mouthwash (if recommended by the dentist), can help keep the gums clean and reduce the risk of infection. Avoid Hot and Spicy Foods: It's a good idea to avoid hot and spicy foods for a day or two after scaling, as they can cause discomfort to the sensitive gums. Follow Dentist's Instructions: Your cousin should follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by the dentist. These may include recommendations for diet, oral hygiene practices, and any prescribed medications. Attend Follow-Up Appointments: Regular follow-up appointments with the dentist are essential to monitor the healing process and address any concerns or issues that may arise. It's important to note that alcohol and smoking can have adverse effects on oral health in the long term, including gum disease and other oral health problems. Encouraging your cousin to reduce or quit these habits will benefit their overall oral and general health. As each individual's situation may be different, it's crucial for your cousin to consult their dentist for personalized advice on post-scaling care, including when it's safe to resume alcohol and smoking after the procedure. The dentist will consider their specific oral health condition and treatment to provide the most appropriate recommendations.

Hi, It is advisable not to smoke for 3 to 4 days after a scaling procedure. There is not restriction in diet. Better to avoid any hot or cold food and beverages.
