You need confirm it with the x-ray whether it should be removed or it is capable of saving.... If the x-ray shows any fracture then extraction is the option... If there is only infection on periapical region, then you can do a re-rct and crown... Always after root canal, if you don't put a crown the tooth has a risk of fracture, so to save the tooth completely root canal plus crown is the complete treatment....
Next Steps
Start the treatment with prophylactic antibiotics, prescribed by your Dentist...
If u have got root canal done for ur teeth then I should cap it also..it's mandatory..because after root canal teeth becomes rigid..without blood supply data why chances of getting fractured increases...so get an x-ray done..might b possible that u developed an infection or it got fractured due to which u r facing trouble...it's not necessary that u have to remove the tooth...
There might be a fracture as the tooth is not crowned..don't worry.. consult an endodontist...maximum the tooth can be saved by re- root canal treatment if the fracture is not severe
