Root canal
Hi , I had tooth ache in my upper teeth , So I had gone to a dentist nearby. She told me that the previous filling had caused this So she suggested me root canal . She told it will take 2 sittings I wanted one , she said it's infected So 2 to 3 sittings . I have 2 questions. 1) I filled the tooth a year back , now it's showing pain when I eat , so is root canal necessary 2) why 2to 3 sittings .? And each sitting is about 1hr . Is it normal ?

You need RCT if your tooth is aching But do get an XRay done to confirm Of the tooth is infected they at need intra canal medicaments to take care of any residual infection inside the canal. It’s the routine procedure, so don’t worry. It’s absolutely normal Two sittings may be sufficient

Yes, Root canal is needed as your tooth is infected and pain is there. Number of sittings vary as per the severity of infection. So yes sometimes 2-3 sittings may be required.
Next Steps
Visit a local dentist for physical evaluation and treatment.
Health Tips
Maintain oral hygiene. Avoid eating from side where you have pain.

Hi Depending on your symptoms Doctor will suggest you to go for rct or filling the tooth again 1.If there is constant pain you can go for rct 2.If it’s only sensitivity on eating hot or cold food items , You can go ahead with removal of old filling and get a new filling done (if the old filling is broken or if there is any micro leakage in old filling it will result in sensitivity)
Next Steps
Do you have any X-rays ?? I think there is an infection that’s y do or suggested you root canal in 2 to 3 sittings We can do rct in one sitting if there is not infection .
Health Tips
2 to 3 sittings for infected teeth is normal But it may not take an hour It depends on the condition of your teeth If possible share X-rays

If your previously filled tooth is now causing pain while eating, it could indicate an underlying issue, such as infection or decay. A root canal may be necessary to address the root cause and alleviate the pain. The number of sittings required for a root canal can vary depending on the severity of the infection and the complexity of the case. While some cases can be completed in a single sitting, others may require two to three sittings to ensure thorough cleaning and proper treatment. Each sitting typically lasts around 1 hour, and this timeframe is normal for a comprehensive root canal procedure. It's important to follow your dentist's advice and recommendations based on their professional assessment of your specific case. They will determine the best course of action to save your tooth and alleviate your pain effectively. If you have any further concerns or questions, I recommend discussing them with your dentist. They will provide you with the most accurate information and address any specific concerns related to your dental health.

Hi, Root Canal treatment is necessary as the pain may be due to an infection in the tooth. If the dentist has advised 2 to 3 sittings for the treatment, it is to make sure all the infection is drained out before doing a permanent filling.
