After a root canal treatment (RCT), it is not uncommon for the tooth to become darker or appear black. This discoloration is usually caused by the removal of the nerve and blood supply during the RCT, which can affect the internal structure of the tooth. The tooth may lose its natural color and appear darker compared to the surrounding teeth. In most cases, the discoloration of the tooth after an RCT is not a cause for concern and is considered a normal side effect. However, it's always a good idea to consult with your dentist to have the tooth examined and ensure there are no other underlying issues. If the cap or crown has fallen off, it's important to visit your dentist as soon as possible to have it properly evaluated and recemented or replaced if necessary. Your dentist will also assess the overall health of the tooth and determine if any additional treatment is required.

cavities below teeth - suggests leakage from margins - due to poor fitting crowns or food lodgement surrounding or in between teeth. many time old tooth before RCT may be damaged more due to past caries and doctor tries to save tooth by RCT but if caries are not completely removed or tooth might not be in condition to retain filling then Post and core may help but even then crown may fall. lastly dental labs role and manufacruring of crowns may be in question..

After root canal treatment tooth becomes brittle and dry .Lack of oral hygiene (food lodgement due to Ill fitting cap ) will worsen the situation and teeth will become soft ultimately the cap will come out .
Next Steps
Depends on the amount of tooth structure remaining .If there is enough tooth structure to support the cap , You can go ahead with the filling followed by new cap
Health Tips
Make sure u get the new filling done after complete removal of decayed teeth and nee cap should be placed without any gaps to prevent further decays and cap dislodgements

Hello , if you have pain or food lodgement , I would recommend you to visit the dentist before it worsens .They will first have a look clinically and diagnose it and take xrays as well to see if tooth has gotten re-infected. So if in case it’s re-infected there are two options . 1. First recommend a CBCT (3D scan)on that particular tooth to see if it’s infected (only if there is infection) - this is in case while taking an xray at clinic and if your dentist finds out that there is infection on the root area . 2. Re-rct and capping can be done (again if infected). 3. Do a filling on that tooth and get a cap on it . These are the possibilities of treatments for you sir Also to mention worse case scenario if tooth is infected then extraction and implant or any other replacement (worst case only)
Next Steps
Get a consult with a dentist
Health Tips
Would suggest you to do lukewarm saltwater rinse twice daily till you get a consult and avoid chewing anything hard on that side . Avoid vigorous brushing on that area too . Use soft bristles .
