Overthinking and lack of concentration can make studying difficult, but you can improve your focus with structured techniques. Brain fog is often caused by stress, anxiety, poor sleep, or excessive mental load, so managing these factors is key. Steps to Improve Concentration & Reduce Overthinking 1. Structured Study Routine – Break study sessions into short intervals (25-45 minutes) using the Pomodoro technique. Take 5-10 minute breaks in between to refresh your mind. 2. Mindfulness & Grounding Techniques – Practice deep breathing or mindfulness exercises before studying to clear mental clutter. Journaling your thoughts before starting can also help you refocus. 3. Reduce Mental Overload – Limit unnecessary information intake (e.g., social media scrolling) and focus on one task at a time. Avoid multitasking. 4. Healthy Lifestyle Habits – Ensure adequate sleep, proper hydration, and balanced nutrition. Omega-3s, nuts, and green leafy vegetables support brain function. 5. Physical Activity & Fresh Air – Even a short walk or stretching can boost brain function and improve focus. 6. Cognitive Behavioral Techniques – When overthinking starts, ask yourself: Is this thought helping me right now? If not, consciously shift your focus to the present task. 7. Guided Focus Exercises – Try concentration-boosting activities like meditation, chess, or puzzles. Listening to instrumental music or white noise while studying can also improve focus. Over time, consistency with these strategies will improve your concentration and reduce brain fog. If overthinking remains overwhelming, therapy can help train your mind to break the cycle. You will first need diagnosis. Then proceed with what can be done for that condition (treat/therapy). From what you said sounds like Anxiety/ ADHD. Do a full assessment with a Psychiatrist, no need to suffer like this
