Need gut health advise
Hi, I'm a nursing mother and my son is 18 months old now. For the past 8 months I have had frequent loose motions especially when I travel or when I dont sleep, after eating fast food, mutton / fish at times. I have never had digestion issue before delivery which bothered me a lot. I consulted a gastro doctor and did colonoscopy last month and everything is normal in my colon. No inflammation, ulcer or polyps. It was clean. After that doctor prescribed me anti diarrhoeal and probiotic for 15 days. It's been a month now but I still get mild cramps and loose stool (not diarrhea) when i eat fatty foods and also passing lot of gas than before colonoscopy. My periods are irregular still and I have noticed loose stool before and during periods also. Gal bladder, kidney, uterus and everything is normal in abdomen usg. I was 76kgs and became 73kgs now after colonoscopy. Can I please know if I need to take any probiotic/ supplement on long term or any home remedy that helps? Please advise.

Care AI Shimmer
Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician. I understand your concern — frequent mild loose stools, bloating, and cramps after eating fatty foods, during travel, or around periods is understandably distressing, especially after delivery. Since your colonoscopy and abdominal ultrasounds are normal, this is likely functional, related to diet, hormones, or mild gut sensitivity ✅ Advices • Avoid high-fat, spicy, and processed foods temporarily; eat smaller, frequent meals with easily digestible foods • Include soluble fiber from oats, bananas, and cooked vegetables to help regulate stool consistency • Stay hydrated and consider gentle probiotics daily; yogurt or commercially available lactobacillus-containing probiotics can be helpful • Maintain good sleep, manage stress, and avoid long gaps without meals What to Monitor • Watch for worsening diarrhea, persistent abdominal pain, blood in stool, or unintentional weight loss • Note any changes in bowel habits during periods or after specific foods Management You may continue probiotics and soluble fiber as supportive care. Avoid long-term use of anti-diarrheal medications unless advised by a doctor. Gentle home remedies like peppermint tea or warm water with ginger can sometimes reduce cramps and gas When to Consult a Doctor Immediately • Blood in stool or black stools • Persistent high fever or severe abdominal pain • Rapid weight loss or dehydration Every patient’s situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, it is important to discuss your medical history, diet, and symptoms in detail You can reach out to me directly for this case, and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one-on-one consultation where you will receive A personalized treatment plan Safe medicine and supplement adjustments if required Quick follow-ups to track your recovery Take care, wishing you good health Best regards Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician

These symptoms you are suffering despite normal diagnostic finding may be due to hormonal issues, cortisol is being also important which gets increased in stress conditions likely due to lack of sleep and travel
Next Steps
Make a bedtime habit of reading some pages of book, try to keep a consistency in sleep wake schedule by waking up and going to bed at a fixed time daily which is more suitable for you, listen calming music while travelling, keep fat intake moderate
Health Tips
Stay hydrated, incorporate high fibre diet banana, carrots, leafy vegetables, natural probiotic yogurt

It’s reassuring that your major investigations like colonoscopy and ultrasound are normal. Many women notice digestive changes after pregnancy due to shifts in hormones, lifestyle, and gut sensitivity. The way your symptoms get triggered by certain foods, stress, or lack of sleep is something I see quite often in practice.
Next Steps
Since you’ve already had basic tests, the next step is not rushing into more medicines but tailoring your management to your individual pattern. This requires reviewing your reports, diet history, and current lifestyle in detail. That’s best done over a consultation so we can chalk out the safest long-term strategy.
Health Tips
For now, keep track of food triggers and focus on regular sleep and hydration. Avoid overusing anti-diarrheals on your own. If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important not to delay expert review. You can book a quick consult with me on Practo so I can guide you on the right probiotics, supplements, and safe home measures suited for your case.
