Your symptoms like chest pain, body pain, weakness and throat discomfort should first be medically evaluated to rule out any physical condition, especially since they are recent and severe. Anxiety can sometimes cause or increase physical symptoms such as muscle tension, chest tightness and body aches, but a medical check-up is important before linking everything to anxiety.
If medical reports are normal, then these symptoms may be stress or anxiety related, and psychological support along with relaxation and anxiety-management techniques can help reduce them. Consulting both a physician and a psychologist would be the best next step.
Hi, do you have the diagnosis of anxiety from a doctor?if yes, please follow their prescription regarding medication.
Along with that, consider taking therapies. Certain approaches of therapy is beneficial in case of anxiety.
If you don't have any diagnosis from a doctor/psychologist please visit soon. Body pain can be the psychosomatic symptom of anxiety.
Since you have anxiety for 3 years, your nervous system may already be in a heightened stress state.
Anxiety can manifest physically as:
Chest pain or tightness
Shoulder and body pain
Throat discomfort (globus sensation)
Weakness or fatigue
When stress remains unresolved, the body starts expressing it through somatic symptoms. However, because these symptoms are recent (5 days) and intense, we should not immediately conclude it is only anxiety.
Next Steps
First rule out medical causes through a physician consultation.
If reports are normal, it may indicate somatic anxiety or stress-related physical symptoms.
Begin anxiety management:
Breathing exercises (slow diaphragmatic breathing)
Progressive muscle relaxation
Identify triggers and stressors
Cognitive restructuring
Consider psychotherapy for long-term regulation.
Health Tips
Chest pain should never be ignored. If it is severe, radiating, or associated with sweating or breathlessness, seek emergency care immediately.
Anxiety is treatable, but we must approach it systematically.
Hello,
Since you have anxiety from the last 3 years, your current symptoms like severe body pain, shoulder pain, chest pain, weakness, throat discomfort and swelling sensation can be related to anxiety and stress response.
When anxiety remains for a long time, the body stays in “fight or flight” mode, which can cause muscle tension (neck, shoulder, chest pain), throat tightness, weakness and overall body aches.
However, since these symptoms have increased from the last 5 days, I would strongly recommend getting a basic medical check-up first to rule out any physical cause. Once medical causes are ruled out, we can focus on anxiety management.
Combination of counselling (CBT, relaxation training, stress management) and psychiatric consultation (if required) gives very good results in such cases.
Please do not ignore the symptoms. Early intervention helps faster recovery.
Take care.
Considering your concern you should immediately consult with an ENT Doctor.
Next Steps
Post your medication for your throat problem and positive outcome, please also consult with an expert counselling psychologist regarding your issue of anxiety and related concerns.
Your symptoms can sometimes be related to anxiety. Anxiety does not only affect the mind, it also affects the body. When someone has ongoing stress or anxiety, the nervous system stays in “fight-or-flight” mode. This can cause real physical symptoms such as chest pain, shoulder and body aches (from muscle tension), throat tightness, weakness, and fatigue.
These symptoms are not imaginary. They are real physical sensations caused by stress hormones and prolonged muscle tension. Many people with long-term anxiety experience similar body pains and throat discomfort, especially during stressful periods.
However, because you are having chest pain, it is still important to rule out physical causes at least once with a doctor’s examination and basic tests like an ECG. Once serious causes are excluded, we can more confidently consider anxiety as a contributing factor.
If this is anxiety-related, treatment such as stress management, relaxation exercises, therapy, and sometimes medication can significantly improve both the mental and physical symptoms.
Next Steps
Do consult a psychologist if you believe the symptoms are due to prolonged stress, or else consult a physician if it's a physical issue.

Willing to consult, and you can reach out to me if needed
When someone has been living with anxiety for a long time, the body can start showing physical symptoms such as chest pain, shoulder tension, throat discomfort, weakness, and body aches. Anxiety keeps the muscles tight and the nervous system overactive, which can create real physical pain and a feeling of swelling or heaviness. However, since your symptoms have increased in the last 5 days, it is important not to assume everything is only anxiety without checking.
Next Steps
A balanced approach would include:
- Getting a medical check-up to rule out infection, inflammation, vitamin deficiencies, or other physical causes for throat pain and weakness
- Consulting your treating doctor or psychiatrist if anxiety has worsened recently
- Working with a mental health professional, especially a therapist, to learn ways to reduce body tension and health-related worry
- Practising slow breathing and muscle relaxation exercises, as chronic tension often causes shoulder and chest discomfort
- Improving sleep, hydration, and regular meals, since poor routine can increase body pain
- Avoiding repeated self-checking or over-monitoring symptoms, which can increase anxiety
