Recurrent mouth ulcers occurring almost every week for the last 2–3 months warrant evaluation to identify the underlying cause. Common reasons include: • Vitamin B12, Iron, or Folic Acid deficiency • Stress, anxiety, or inadequate sleep • Nutritional deficiencies and poor dietary habits • Hormonal changes • Food allergies or sensitivities • Local trauma from sharp teeth, braces, or accidental cheek/lip biting • Certain systemic conditions affecting immunity
Next Steps
Since your ulcers are recurring frequently, I would recommend a clinical examination along with relevant investigations such as CBC, Serum Ferritin, Vitamin B12, and Folate levels to rule out deficiencies.
Health Tips
Meanwhile, maintain good oral hygiene, stay well hydrated, avoid spicy/acidic foods, and try to manage stress and sleep patterns.

Hello, Frequent mouth ulcers occurring almost every week for the past 2–3 months are not considered normal and should be evaluated to identify the underlying cause. Common causes include: • Vitamin B12, Iron, or Folic Acid deficiency • Stress, anxiety, and lack of sleep • Nutritional deficiencies and poor diet • Hormonal changes • Food allergies or sensitivity to certain foods • Trauma from sharp teeth or accidental cheek/lip biting • Certain systemic conditions affecting immunity Since your ulcers are recurring frequently, I would recommend a consultation with an Oral Medicine Specialist or Dentist. Blood investigations such as CBC, Serum Ferritin, Vitamin B12, and Folate levels may be required to identify any deficiency. In the meantime: • Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables. • Stay well hydrated. • Avoid spicy, acidic, and very hot foods. • Ensure adequate sleep and stress management. Most importantly, the treatment depends on identifying the underlying cause. Once the cause is addressed, the frequency of ulcers usually reduces significantly. Regards, Dr. Mohit Gautam BDS, MDS (Endodontist)
Next Steps
Consult a dentist or Oral Medicine Specialist for evaluation and possible blood tests.
Health Tips
Keep a record of when ulcers occur, foods eaten, stress levels, and sleep patterns. This often helps identify triggers for recurrent mouth ulcers.

Hello Mam. I understand your concern. As per your given history of recurrent mouth ulcer, my provisional diagnosis will be Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis. Before starting any supplement, it’s better to go for a CBC, testosterone test, a vitamin profile blood test.
Next Steps
Any topical ointment is only going to give symptomatic relief. Still i would suggest to use Coolora mouthwash ( benzyldamine hydrochloride ) before food , for better painless experience while eating
Health Tips
Do not start any medication without a blood test.

The presentation is highly characteristic of Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS), specifically the minor variant, given the frequent weekly episodes, 5 to 6-day healing cycle, and localized nature. In a 17-year-old female, such frequent recurrences over a 2 to 3-month period strongly suggest an underlying systemic, nutritional, or lifestyle trigger rather than a localized dental issue alone. While topical over-the-counter remedies like Smyle gel (which contains local anesthetics and astringents) provide temporary symptomatic relief, they do not address the root cause or prevent new lesions from forming. Recurrent ulcers require a holistic diagnostic approach to rule out systemic predisposing factors. Predisposing facyors to consider: Deficiencies: Low Vitamin B-complex (B_{12}, B_6), Iron, or Folic Acid. Hormones: Cyclic changes during the menstrual cycle. Gut Health: Underlying issues like Celiac disease or IBD. Stress: High stress levels and lack of sleep. Irritants: Cheek bites or SLS-foaming agents in toothpaste.
Next Steps
To achieve a permanent solution or effectively manage the frequency of these episodes, you should transition from self-treatment to a structured clinical evaluation. Specialist Consultation: See an Oral Medicine specialist or surgeon to evaluate the ulcers and check for sharp teeth or trauma. Blood Tests: Get a CBC and test for Vitamin B_{12}, Iron, Ferritin, and Folic Acid to pinpoint potential deficiencies. Targeted Treatment: Correct any identified deficiencies with supplements, or use prescription topical steroid gels (like triamcinolone) for severe flares.
Health Tips
Switch Your Toothpaste: Avoid toothpastes containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), as this foaming agent can irritate the oral mucosa and lower its threshold for ulceration. Opt for an SLS-free or sensitive formulation. Dietary Modifications: Maintain a food diary to see if specific items (like citrus fruits, spicy food, nuts, or chocolate) trigger an episode. Focus on a diet rich in green leafy vegetables, dairy, and lean proteins. Avoid Irritation: While an ulcer is active, avoid extremely hot, spicy, or acidic foods that can exacerbate pain and delay mucosal healing. Red Flags: The patient should seek immediate medical attention if an ulcer fails to heal within 14 days, grows significantly larger, or is accompanied by systemic symptoms like fever, skin rashes, or joint pain.
