Based on the history you’ve shared, it is not possible to confirm Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) from symptoms alone, and from your description it does not strongly point toward OLP. * Viral ulcers or traumatic ulcers can take 7–14 days to heal. * Minor bleeding while cleaning the tongue can occur because the ulcer surface is very delicate and inflamed. * Hormonal changes, stress, nutritional deficiencies (Vitamin B12, folate, iron), gastrointestinal issues, and local irritation can all contribute to recurrent tongue ulcers. * OLP usually presents as persistent white lace-like lines, red patches, often affecting both sides of the mouth rather than a single isolated ulcer. However, only a clinical examination—and occasionally a biopsy if the lesion persists—can confirm or rule it out.
Next Steps
Since you’ve had the ulcer for only 5 days and are already on treatment, I would recommend: * Continue the prescribed medication as advised by your dentist. * Avoid spicy, hot, acidic, and crunchy foods until it heals. * Maintain good oral hygiene, but avoid vigorous tongue cleaning over the ulcer. * Stay well hydrated and reduce stress if possible.
Health Tips
If the ulcer does not heal within 2 weeks, increases in size, becomes repeatedly recurrent, or you notice persistent white/red patches or a hard area, you should consult an oral medicine specialist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon. They may recommend further evaluation, including blood tests (Vitamin B12, iron, folate, blood sugar) or, if clinically indicated, a biopsy. At this stage, there is no need to panic. Most tongue ulcers are benign and resolve with appropriate care, but persistent ulcers should never be ignored.

Hello Mam, as per your given complain and your medical history of hypothyroid + correlating with pictures attached; It can either be OLP or Bechet’s diastase( autoimmune : your body reacting against yourself) or it can be Leukoplakia ( due to repeated friction from sharp edges of teeth, any habits etc) . It might require good professional checkup plus diagnostic biopsy later to conclude the case. Kindly do not worry..you should continue the Rebagen tab as prescribed ,the results won’t be soon as you are expecting after 3 days but the recovery will be there. For symptomatic and quick relief you can apply Mucopain ointment or Benzadamine HCL mouthwash
Next Steps
Revisit the dentist after completion of medication after 10 days, till then you can add mucopain or benzadamine mouthwash to your routine. For the ointment apply 5min prior to eating same goes for mouth wash you need to rinse for a few minutes and then spit it out. It will give a soothing effect and you can eat properly .
Health Tips
Do not scrape too hard, i would suggest to use the back side of the brush to scrape the tongue till the tongue issue subsides. Avoid too hot too spicy food .

Hello ,I understand your concern.if the ulcer is one side of the tongue and is there since 5 days and bleeds only while cleaning the tongue and there is no spontaneous bleeding from the ulcers. One more thing which I would like to know are these ulcers painful or painless and are there any other symptoms like hard or inflamed lymph nodes. So the palpation of the lymph nodes near your lower jaws needs to be done which can only be done clinically. The ulceration can be due to any sharp cusps of teeth which is causing constant irritation of the tongue. It can also be due to deficiency of micronutrients like vitamin B12 or vit c deficiency. So there are multiple reasons for the ulcers but first the ulcers need to be diagnosed clinically to rule out malignancy.
Next Steps
Visit an oral medicine specialist or a oral and maxillofacial surgeon . if the ulcers are painful then for the time being you can apply mucopain oral gel on the ulcers 4 times a day for 4-5 days.
Health Tips
stop having very hot and spicy food/ beverages for sometime and cessation of any deleterious habits like tobacco smoking or alcohol consumption or any form of tobacco consumption as these can aggravate the symptoms and worsen it.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your concern. I understand why you're feeling anxious, especially when you've received different opinions. Based on your description alone, it's not possible to accurately diagnose the condition without examining the tongue and the photographs are not very clear. Many conditions can appear similar, including: A viral ulcer or viral inflammation Traumatic irritation (from the teeth or tongue cleaning) Aphthous (canker) ulcers Less commonly, inflammatory conditions such as Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) The good news is that OLP cannot be diagnosed based on symptoms alone. It requires a thorough clinical examination, and in some cases, a biopsy may be needed if the appearance is suspicious or the lesion persists. Since your ulcer has been present for 5 days, it is still within the expected healing period for many viral or traumatic ulcers, which often take 7–14 days to resolve. Minor bleeding while cleaning the tongue can occur because inflamed tissue is very delicate. For now: Continue taking the medicines exactly as prescribed by your dentist. Avoid spicy, hot, acidic, or hard foods that may irritate the area. Maintain gentle oral hygiene and avoid aggressively cleaning or scraping the tongue. Stay well hydrated and try to avoid tobacco or alcohol if applicable. If the ulcer does not improve within 10–14 days, becomes larger, more painful, or new ulcers appear, you should revisit your dentist or consult us. They or we can perform a detailed examination and determine whether any further tests, including a biopsy, are necessary. Try not to worry too much at this stage. Most tongue ulcers are benign and heal with appropriate care, but it's important to monitor the healing over the next few days.
