Medications you have been prescribed can be taken together, further toficalm will be tapered and stopped, main medication paroxetine will be continued and do not adjust or stop paroxetine on your own
Initially with main medication as paroxetine, some anxiolytic or sedatives are prescribed that are tapered and stopped in follow up visits as per symptoms and improvement

This is combination is not dangerous in routine psychiatric practice.
Paroxetine takes 2-4 weeks to show its effect,
Tofisopam can give relief from anxiety and restlessness without causing much sedation and dependence.
Key is to take it exactly as prescribed and review as said, so the psychiatrist can decide whether to continue, adjust or stop as when needed.
I understand your concern — it’s natural to feel worried after reading conflicting information online. Paroxetine ( a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor usually used as an antidepressant)and Toficalm (which contains tofisopam, an anxiolytic) are sometimes prescribed together for short-term relief of anxiety and depression symptoms.
Tofisopam is different from regular benzodiazepines (like alprazolam or etizolam). It works on anxiety but is generally considered less sedating and has a lower risk of dependence compared to classic benzodiazepines.
Next Steps
1. Follow-up with your psychiatrist – share any side effects (drowsiness, nausea, sexual side effects, stomach upset) so adjustments can be made.
2. Do not stop Paroxetine suddenly – stopping abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms (dizziness, anxiety, sleep problems). Any taper must be doctor-guided.
3. Clarify prescription duration – Paroxetine is usually long-term (months to years), while Tofisopam is often given short-term to manage acute anxiety or insomnia.
4. Ask about therapy options – combining medication with CBT or supportive therapy improves recovery and reduces relapse risk.
Health Tips
• Routine matters – take Paroxetine at the same time every day as advised to keep blood levels steady.
• Lifestyle support – regular exercise, good sleep hygiene, and limiting caffeine/alcohol help both depression and anxiety.
• Track symptoms – keep a small journal of mood, sleep, and side effects to discuss in reviews.
• Social support – share with a trusted family member/friend so they understand your journey and can encourage you.
• Be patient – SSRIs like Paroxetine may take 3–6 weeks for full benefit; don’t get discouraged early.
