Need to know her age first.
Hb 7.6 means it is moderate Anemia but clinically significant.
First step : Do a proper CBC
Second step: Check Iron profile, Ferritin, Vitamin B12, Folate (if she is a pure vegetarian)
Third step: Go for Stool OBT tests
Next Steps
Next steps can be discussed after the reports come..

Hello,
Your mother's haemoglobin level of 7.6 g/dL indicates significant anaemia, which can explain her weakness, fatigue, and breathlessness.
However, given her history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), breathlessness also raises concern for a possible pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs), particularly if symptoms are new or worsening.
Possible causes of anaemia include iron deficiency, chronic blood loss, nutritional deficiencies, or underlying medical conditions.
Next Steps
Take her to an emergency department today, particularly because she is breathless and has a history of DVT. Initial assessment should include oxygen saturation, blood pressure, pulse, ECG, and evaluation for pulmonary embolism if clinically suspected. Investigations may include CBC with RBC indices, peripheral smear, reticulocyte count, serum ferritin, iron studies, vitamin B12, and folate. Her doctor should evaluate possible sources of blood loss, particularly gastrointestinal or menstrual bleeding, and review any anticoagulant medication. Blood transfusion or intravenous iron may be considered depending on her symptoms, haemodynamic stability, and the underlying cause. Transfusion is not automatically required solely because Hb is 7.6 g/dL.
Health Tips
Until medically assessed, avoid strenuous activities and allow adequate rest. For constipation, adequate fluids and dietary fibre may help, but the underlying cause and any current iron supplements should be reviewed. Seek emergency care immediately if she experiences worsening breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, rapid heartbeat, coughing blood, or severe weakness. My recommendation: Her combination of significant anaemia, breathlessness, and previous DVT warrants prompt hospital assessment. Do not stop prescribed blood thinners without medical advice. Wishing your mother a speedy recovery!
Need to know what medication is she on for DVT and any treatment she underwent for Varicose veins. Do consult in practo for further evaluation and management
Is she on any blood thinners for the Deep Vein thrombosis ? That could cause internal bleeding .
You are saying she has been having low hemoglobin. So we need to know what's her baseline hemoglobin.
There are number of tests you need to do before knowing what needs to be done .
Better to show in the nearest Hospital and get ger evaluated .
Next Steps
investigations required - peripheral blood smear , Vitamin b12 , Iron studies , reticulocyte count , serum LDH , serum Ferritin . PT INR
also constipation needs to be evalutaed X ray and sonography of abdomen to look for any pathology .
Health Tips
low Hemoglobin with symptoms might require her to get transfusions along with raised concern of bleeding. Needs admission and proper evaluation .
Hii there!
Her symptoms, with her low hemoglobin, new breathlessness, and history of DVT, need same-day medical assessment.
Don't just assume it's only iron deficiency.
Step one is evaluation today, ideally in person.
If you have any other query and want to provide detailed history you can consult with me on practo app
Your haemoglobin reading, along with the breathlessness, tiredness and loss of appetite you're having, needs a doctor's review today rather than waiting. With your history of DVT and varicose veins, an in-person check matters here, and the exact cause needs an examination rather than a guess from these numbers alone.
Next Steps
Please see a general physician today, or go to a hospital emergency department if a same-day appointment isn't possible. Carry this full report and your medical history with you.
Health Tips
Go to emergency care right away if you feel faint, breathless even at rest, your heart races, or you notice any bleeding that won't stop.
