Lipid profile with high number
Doctor, I have been taking medication for about three months; my lipid levels drop but then rise again. When I take the medicine, the levels go down, but then they shoot back up. I just had a test done; please check the report. I am 39 years old, 5'11" tall, and weigh 89 kg. What should I do? I am very worried. Total Cholesterol: 251 Triglycerides: 183 HDL: 56 LDL: 149 Please advise—is this very dangerous?

Hi Don't get terrified with the numbers in lipid profile. 1st of all your triglycerides are high which means you are taking transfats / junk / outside food etc..... Secondly I suppose you are not doing regular exercise. That is the reason why your cholesterol is going down with medicine otherwise hiking up. Dyslipidemia is part of metabolic syndrome. It needs continuing care.
Next Steps
feel free to consult me on practo for further evaluation and management
Health Tips
lifestyle modification diet restriction regular exercise stress management

These numbers are not dangerous - total 251, LDL 149, TG 183, HDL 56 is mild dyslipidaemia, nothing like an emergency. The "drop then rise" pattern almost always means the statin is being taken irregularly or stopped once reports look good; lipids rebound within weeks of stopping. At 89 kg and 5'11" your main lever is weight: 6-8 kg loss with sugar and refined carb cutback plus 40 minutes brisk walking will pull the triglycerides down nicely. Take the statin daily at night without breaks.
Next Steps
Continue the statin daily, get lipid profile plus LFT and HbA1c after 3 months, and book a consult with me on Practo with your old reports so I can fix the dose and rule out fatty liver or diabetes.

Hi .., goodevening, you have dyslipidemia , may i know which medications are you taking?? Keep the following Dietary Modification: Cut down simple sugars, refined carbohydrates, and ultra-processed foods (the primary driver for elevated triglycerides). Reduce saturated and trans fats; increase soluble dietary fiber (oats, legumes, psyllium). Physical Activity: Aim for at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise combined with resistance training. Alcohol & Weight: Moderate or eliminate alcohol intake, as it significantly elevates hepatic VLDL and triglyceride synthesis. Target 5–10% body weight reduction if BMI/waist circumference is elevated.
Next Steps
Test fasting hbA1c and fasting blood sugar levels., kindly contact me on Practo for further queries., i can help you
Health Tips
Drink plenty of water , exercise regularly .., hope this helps., kindly consult me on Practo
