Afternoon nap is good considering the age of your father , the simple reason he can't sleep at night is because he compensated at afternoon sleep, tryto make him active during day time to make sure he gets tired and sleeps at night, you can also try massage to foot at night which is highly recommended

Hello, If your father has insomnia , and is sleepy during the day it points towards disturbed circadian rhythm. In ayurveda we correlate it with Vata Dosha aggravation along with Manovaha strotas dushti. 1. Prakruti analysis along with any other history of medication is required. 2. Shirodhara karma with jatamansi kwatha and consumption of medhya rasayan will also help in reducing symptoms to some extent.

Hi, You have not  mention Your Father's age, and in general and As  we age our brains Melatonin hormone reduces and there are many other reasons for sleep disturbances, For any patient suffering from sleep disorder He or She  should consult a qualified doctor. Regarding your father , if he is comfortable to use alprazolam on and off .. he can use under doctors supervision, regarding ashwagandha...which is mostly used by patient on their own has different effect ,hence a combination therapy will help in this case. Besides we have very good medicines for Insomnia. You can consult

Thank you for sharing about your father's condition. His inability to sleep at night (insomnia) but sleeping during the day — along with occasional Alprazolam use — suggests a disturbed circadian rhythm and likely Vata-Pitta imbalance, especially in the manovaha srotas (mind channels). Since Ashwagandha alone didn’t help, a broader and deeper Ayurvedic strategy is needed. Let’s build a complete natural plan to help reset his sleep. 🌙 Ayurvedic View of Insomnia In Ayurveda, insomnia is called Anidra and is mainly due to: Vata vitiation (overactive nervous system) Sometimes Pitta (mental agitation, worry) Blocked prana flow due to emotional or nervous stress 🧪 Ayurvedic Treatment Plan for Chronic Insomnia 1. 🌿 Effective Herbal Combinations (better than Ashwagandha alone) cases 🔸 Instead of single-herb therapy, these synergistic combinations offer deeper sleep support 2. 🌞 Reset Sleep-Wake Cycle (Dinacharya-based) 3. 🧘‍♂️ Nighttime Yoga Nidra & Breathing (Powerful!) Just 15–20 minutes daily of: 🌀 Nadi Shodhana Pranayama 🧘‍♂️ Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation — use YouTube apps like “Swami Satyananda Yoga Nidra”) 🐝 Bhramari Pranayama (5 mins) These reduce cortical brain activity and induce natural sleep. 4. 🌙 Bedtime Drink (Simple but effective) Option 1: 🫖 Warm milk + 1 pinch nutmeg + 1 tsp ghee – calms Vata, induces sleep Option 2: Ashwagandha + Brahmi powder (½ tsp each) + warm milk + jaggery – nerve relaxation + mild sweetness to calm mind ⚠️ Avoid Caffeine, tea, spicy food after 5 PM Watching news or emotional TV at night Physical inactivity during the day Using Alprazolam regularly — dependency risk 🔁 Timeline for Results 7–10 days: Improved calmness and falling asleep 3–4 weeks: Natural rhythm starts restoring 2–3 months: Stable long-term improvement, no need for sleeping pills ✔it is most common nowadays due to poor lifestyle. it needs ayurvedic detox therapy. ayurvedic medicine along with panchakarma like , nasya, shirodhara, virechan will be useful for this condition. ✔yog and pranayam is also useful in this condition. ✔ you need to consult himself with ayurvedic doctor for his specific issue, we will advice you ayurvedic medicine and diet, panchakarma treatment according to his health issue. 🔔Proper investigation will be helpful for perfect Ayurvedic diagnosis and treatment. ✔ with detail history taking we can advice you proper protocol for treatment. 👉 Advice- Reduce spicy food, sugar, salt and maida from food. ✔ Avoid self medication. ✔ Follow Daily regime and have a healthy lifestyle

Chronic sleeplessness, especially in the elderly, often relates to Vata imbalance in Ayurveda. Ashwagandha alone may not be sufficient. A combination of herbs like Tagara, Jatamansi, Brahmi, and Mandukaparni, along with oil therapies like Shirodhara or head massage with Brahmi oil, often gives better results. Lifestyle and diet corrections, warm milk with nutmeg, and early dinner also help improve sleep quality. Yes, Ayurveda offers effective treatments — but needs a personalized approach beyond just a single herb. I recommend consulting an experienced Ayurvedic physician for a holistic plan.
