Hi, I got pain while urination and after that got sudden pain in stomach and I did the test of my urine. There's a UTI in my urine report. I have reached to hospital and they said to do the test-CT whole abdomen but they didn't specify that whether it's NCCT whole abdomen or CECT whole abdomen. Can you please help me in deciding that whether it's Ncct whole abdomen or CECT whole abdomen ?

Hi, since you have urinary symptoms and pain, the choice of CT (NCCT vs. CECT) depends on what the treating doctor is suspecting.
NCCT (non-contrast CT) KUB/abdomen is usually done if kidney/ureteric stones are suspected.
CECT (contrast CT) whole abdomen is done if infection, abscess, structural problem, or other abdominal causes are suspected.
Next Steps
Since you already have a UTI and stomach pain, the decision depends on the doctor’s clinical suspicion. Please confirm directly with your treating doctor/radiologist before proceeding, as they can guide which scan will give the best information in your case.
Hello,
If your urine test has already confirmed UTI, the next step is usually to check if there are any stones, obstruction, or complications.
ð CT abdomen type:
NCCT (Non-contrast CT) whole abdomen is usually done if the main suspicion is urinary stones.
CECT (Contrast-enhanced CT) is preferred when doctors want to look for infection spread, abscess, masses, or other abdominal pathology.
Since your doctor advised "CT whole abdomen" without specifying, it is best to clarify with them what exactly they want to rule out (stone vs. infection complications).
ð¹ Practical suggestion:
For a simple UTI, CT is not always needed.
If you had sudden pain in abdomen + pain while urination, NCCT is more commonly asked first (to rule out stone).
If they suspect something more than stone (complicated infection, abscess, tumor), then CECT is advised.

Based on the history you say, it's UTI and you have been given tablets for that. They might suspect that infection spread above since you have abdominal pain. I don't recommend CT all of the sudden in this case. You can proceed with USG abdomen and review with your doctor or through online consultation.
Then it would be better to follow up and treat accordingly. As of now follow the medications your doctor has prescribed and consume more water. Follow proper hygiene techniques.

They might have asked you to check if there is any swelling (hydronephrosis) in your kidney or kidney sronws that may be causing it .
We start with a USG KUB first and move ahead from there.
