GGT is a non specific test. It just means that something is wrong with the liver. It is positive much before the other parameters of the liver are affected. You should monitor your LFT every three months.

Elevation in GGT can be due to alcoholic consumption, any chronic disease causing stress to biliary tracts and any diseases specific to liver like fatty liver and bile stones etc . Certain drugs can also increase the GGT levels .
Next Steps
Avoid alcoholic beverages and drugs for 24 hr and repeat the test . If still the levels are elevated consult a physician.

An isolated GGTP elevation (70) with normal SGOT and SGPT may indicate mild liver or biliary stress. Possible causes include alcohol consumption, medication effects, early fatty liver, or minor biliary issues like gallstones. GGTP can also rise due to smoking, oxidative stress, or as a cardiovascular risk marker. To address this, avoid alcohol, assess medications, and maintain a healthy diet. Further evaluation may include an abdominal ultrasound, lipid profile, and liver function retesting after 4-6 weeks. If symptoms persist or GGTP remains high, consult for a detailed assessment.
