Dog bite today
My pet dog bit me today because I mistakenly stepped on her foot and she is 5 years old and has been vaccinated every ear but this ear the dose is still pending which generally she gets in July month itself, the bitw was on my foot on one finger, the skin broke, blood came out.
Although I did get by the same pet dog in December 2024 and took full 5 shots of anti rabies which continued till January 2025.
The schedule was as such-
1st shot- 28th December
2nd shot- 31st December
3rd shot- 4th January
4th shot- 11th January
5th shot- 25th January
Today is 20th July 2026, I did get the first shot of anti rabies which was AbhayRab and tetanus shot as well.

Since you had completed a full 5-dose anti-rabies vaccination course in January 2025, this is considered a re-exposure within 3 years. In such cases:
• Rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) is NOT required.
• You only need 2 booster doses of anti-rabies vaccine:
• Day 0 (already taken on 20 July 2026)
• Day 3 (23 July 2026)
• No further doses (Days 7, 14, or 28) are required if you were previously fully vaccinated.
Health Tips
Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and apply povidone-iodine if available.
• Tetanus prophylaxis has already been given, which is appropriate.
Observe the pet dog for 10 days. If the dog remains healthy, it further reassures that rabies transmission is extremely unlikely. The dog should also receive its pending annual rabies vaccination once examined by a veterinarian.

U mentioned that u take completed a full anti-rabies vaccine course previously, only two booster doses of rabies vaccine are required on Days 0 and 3. Rabies immunoglobulin is not indicated

immediate steps:-
For any dog bite that breaks the skin, immediately wash the wound under running tap water with mild soap for 5-10 minutes. Control any bleeding with a clean cloth.
get TT vaccine followed by Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) - 5 doses....reason being your dog didnt get vaccinated last year. 2nd your PEP was done before 1 year. considering all you will need rabies PEP.
observe the dog for 2-3 weeks if there are any behavioural changes

Kindly wash the foot in running water. You would still need to get the remaining 3 or 4 shots depending on the drug regimen of your first shot. It'll get over within next month. But do get the remaining shots as per schedule.
