My 67-year-old father was bitten on the calf by a dog that died the next day (high suspicion of rabies). He started vaccination on Day 0 as Category II, but RIG was not given. On Day 6, the doctor said it was too late for RIG and continued vaccine only. Is this approach sufficient to fully protect him from rabies, or should RIG have still been given within 7 days as per WHO guidelines?

Firstly it depends on the criteria of bite was there any blood excreting from wound ?
It is too late for RIG but you can countinue the vaccine to the proper scheduled dates ..
It's late for RIG. But Category 2 does not require RIG. Depends if it was bleeding or not. If it's a bleeding wound, it would require RIG.
But Vaccination is started and that's a good point.
Hello Sir,
In a Category II dog bite, rabies vaccine is the main treatment and RIG is usually not required (it is mandatory only in Category III, i.e. deep bites/scratches). Since your father has already started the vaccine course on time, continuing it fully will give protection, and RIG is not needed in this case.
