It's generally not recommended to keep a cotton ball on an affected tooth for an extended period without any temporary filling. The purpose of a temporary filling is to protect the tooth and seal it after a root canal treatment (RCT) until a permanent restoration, such as a crown or filling, can be placed. A cotton ball alone may not provide sufficient protection or prevent bacteria from entering the tooth, potentially leading to infection or other complications. It's important to consult with your dentist regarding your specific situation and travel plans. They can provide guidance on how to best protect the tooth during your travel. If you are unable to see your dentist before your trip, you can discuss your situation with them over the phone or via email. They may recommend alternative temporary measures or provide specific instructions on how to manage the tooth until you can have a permanent restoration placed. It's crucial to prioritize your dental health and seek professional advice to ensure the long-term success of your root canal treatment. Your dentist will be able to provide you with the most appropriate guidance based on your individual case.

Leaving the tooth without any temporary filling is generally not recommended. Without a temporary filling, the tooth may be susceptible to further damage, such as fracture or bacterial reinfection. It's important to have a temporary filling placed promptly to maintain the integrity and health of the treated tooth.

Hi as you know cotton can pop off anytime unless tightly packed. Even though a tooth is root canal treated if not sealed there can be microleakage and reinfection. Hence getting a temporary filling immediately after RCT, and getting it replaced with a permanent filling after 24 to 48 hrs is ideal. Please get atleast a temporary filling done before you travel.
Next Steps
Make sure to be careful not chew with the rc treated tooth until you get your permanent restoration. Avoid hard, sticky and chewy food.
Health Tips
Kindly visit the nearest dentist for a temporary restoration.

Hi, Cotton ball placed inside the root canal treated tooth may not stay for 15 days. A temporary filling may be required to avoid infection during your travel. It is advisable to meet your dentist and inform him about your travel plan.
