Firstly it needs a thorough diagnosis to get to the root cause. Second -  PPI has lots of side effects in long term as mentioned by many in the comments. I would like to add that bone weakening (osteoporosis) and def. of vit B¹² (cyanocobalamin) being the most common one.
Next Steps
consultant a general physician first. Can further need to consider an opinion of Gastroenterologist if the physician feels the need of.

Life long ppi is not a solution.. get checked for cause.. try not to have fatty meal, and avoid immediate lying down after having meal.. always walk for sometime after having meal and maintain proper hydration.. pain could be because of ulcer.. if it is relieved after taking food it could be duodenal ulcer and if the pain is aggravating after meal it is gastric ulcer.. management for both is different.
Next Steps
Get tested for h . Pylori and endoscopy if available at ur area
Health Tips
Look for weight loss or bleeding in stool or vomiting and consult as soon as possible

PPIs are not the only solution, rather finding the cause of your increased gastric acid production. Given your long history suggestive of chronic gastritis, we should rule out infection( very common) as well as few other causes that is causing this and treat that rather than using PPIs. They have a lot of side effects too.

PPI should not be taken for a long time and all medication have long term side effects. The main reason for the Gastritis needs to attended for a permanent solution. It can be due to underlying cholelithiasis or maybe chronic H Pylori infection. This needs to be evaluated and treated accordingly.
Next Steps
You can consult for planning the further management.

No. You should not take PPIs lifelong. You would get better results with lifestyle modification. Please book your consultation for analysis of further detailed history and examination. Correct diagnosis and proper management can improve the quality of your life.

The first and most important thing is to have a good lifestyle which means taking 4-5 meals a day in appropriate portions. You should eat in small quantity and should take less oily foods. Secondly usually PPI’s have no to very less side effects but after prolonged use it affects in absorption of vitamin b12 so you may suffer in some kind of anemia or vitamin b12 deficiency.
