I have been having bleeding from gums the last few months on and off, especially when I brush or if I poke the gums trying to remove some food particles stuck. It stops when I flush with Listerine mouthwash. What treatment would you recommend. Im 28 years, male

Hello, bleeding gums could be because of food lodged in between teeth. Visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. Brush your teeth twice daily, night brushing is very important. Floss regularly. Rinse after every meal. Visit dentist every 6 months.

Bleeding gums are the first sign of active gum disease. Do not for even a single moment consider that it's going to get better with medicinal treatment or mouthwashes. All they will do is mask the disease temporarily. Find a periodontist or good general dentist immediately and get yourself thoroughly evaluated. Most likely the disease is in stage 1 and all you will need is a simple scaling.
Next Steps
Get a dental check up
Health Tips
Gum disease is slowly progressive and does not manifest as pain etc so it is easy to ignore. By the time you have real trouble with your teeth it may be too late to save them. Hence do not wait.
Major reason for bleeding gums can be hard or soft deposits on the surfaces of your teeth, probably near the gum line. It can lead to further problems at later stages if left unattended. I would recommend you to go see a dentist or a periodontist( gum disease specialist) and get your treatment (scaling) done. Alternatively, it can also be caused due to other disorders so dont ignore this sign.
Next Steps
go and consult your dentist or periodontist
Health Tips
use lukewarm water with a pinch of salt to it for gargles everytime you eat till you see your dentist

The main cause of bleeding gums is the buildup of plaque at the gum line. This will lead to a condition called gingivitis, or inflamed gums. Plaque that is not removed will harden into tartar. This will lead to increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum and jawbone disease known as periodontitis. Other causes of bleeding gums include: Any bleeding disorder Brushing too hard Hormonal changes during pregnancy Ill-fitting dentures or other dental appliances Improper flossing Infection, which can be either in a tooth or the gum Leukemia, a type of blood cancer Scurvy, a vitamin C deficiency Use of blood thinners Vitamin K deficiency
