Gum inflammation around the crown can be because of 2 reasons- either there may be food impaction between the teeth due to incorrect contact of crowns or there could be a problem with the root canal leading to reinfectiion .
Next Steps
An X-ray and clinical examination required for diagnosis.
Health Tips
Depending on the cause, either crown replacement or root canal to be repeated.

There can be many reasons for gum inflammation around newly placed Crowns. And out of these reasons, more than one can also be present concomitantly in the same patient. The first ground rule is that gum inflammation can never occur in the absence of plaque. So plaque accumulation over the gums which is not cleaned adequately by a proper tooth brushing technique will be the basis for gum inflammation. Now the factors which can aggravate this inflammation can be either improperly designed crown, where in the contour of the Crown near the gums is exaggerated leading to more plaque accumulation, are due to space between the Crown margin and the gums. All these factors can be evaluated after a proper clinical check up and although repair is not possible for cemented crowns, we can always go for replacement of the same. The second thing I want to emphasize is that Betadine mouthwash is antiseptic mouthwash is which can neutralize the plaque to some extent but not remove it. Similarly Gum Paints are astringent in action and cause temporary shrinkage of the inflamed gums. Limcee is a Vitamin C supplement and should be taken for General Health of the gums. But any of these three modalities will not cure the inflammation which can only be corrected by proper plaque removal and none of these is acting towards plaque removal. So please understand that you can continue these modalities but don't expect a permanent relief because of these. Consult your dentist regarding your problem and you can discuss the options of crown replacement if they are faulty. Regards
