Doctor, I have been suffering from anxiety and overthinking for about three to four years. I consulted a doctor and took medicines for around one and a half years. While taking the medicines, I was able to sleep well and felt normal, but whenever I stopped the medicines, the same problems returned. Earlier my condition was very severe, but gradually it has reduced. However, I still experience overthinking and mild anxiety. That is why I want to try Ashwagandha, as I have heard from many people that it is very beneficial. But after taking one capsule, the next day my hands and feet became very cold. Is this normal, or should I avoid taking Ashwagandha in my condition? Or should I try taking half of the dose ? Please advise.

I completely understand that what you’re going through feels heavy, and it’s not easy to talk about. Please know that anxiety and low mood are very common and absolutely treatable. Just like we see a doctor for physical health, caring for emotional health is equally important. Our conversations will be completely private and without judgment. Even small steps in the right direction can bring big changes—better sleep, more peace of mind, and renewed energy. I would be glad to guide you gently and support you through this, and we can start with a simple online consultation whenever you feel ready.
Ashwagandha alone can't treat ur prblm. Understanding root cause is most important and then treatment accordingly.
Gut health, any thinking habit etc are etiological factors
can you explain in detail about your daily routine, work, and your gut health ,i mean digestion and any other medication history so that i can better understand and suggest you sir

2. Ayurveda is not just a product based medicine
3. Ayurveda is not just a medicine how rmp doctors prescribe the medicine
4. Needs careful examination of a patient whether agni is stable or not, nadi is stable or not,
5. If agni is not stable no medicine will work for you.
6. That agni will be carefully examined by ayurveda physicians
7. Many people educated or non educated they always think it's only some products.
8. There are many medicines like Mansamitraka vati, bramhi vati, Mahakalyanaka grutham, mahapushachika gritham, smritisagara ras etc.,
9. Ur conditions simply get eases with panchakarma therapies like NASYAM, Shirodhara, shiro pichu, basti etc.,
10. Get proper diagnosis from your near by ayurveda physicians and get proper medicine.
Ashwagandha is generally well tolerated, but sometimes people may experience unusual reactions depending on body type, digestion, or dose. Coldness in hands and feet is not a typical side effect. It may be better to avoid self-adjusting and instead consult an Ayurvedic doctor for proper evaluation of your prakriti, anxiety history, and suitable dosage or alternatives.

Only Ashwagandha is not the complete treatment for your illness.
1. You need proper guidance.
2. You need Panchakarma.
3. You need medicines and therapies according to your Dosha and Dhatu.
Hello!!
Your case of anxiety & overthinking, better with medicines but relapses on stopping.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a well-known Medhya Rasayana (nervine tonic) and adaptogen used in anxiety, stress, and sleep disturbances.
It generally has a warming, strengthening effect (balya and vatashamaka), but in some individuals, it can create imbalance depending on prakriti (constitution), dose, or digestion (agni).
Why cold hands/feet may occur after Ashwagandha:
Improper digestion of the capsule formation of ama (toxic byproducts) which can block circulation.
Excess dose for your constitution Sometimes Ashwagandha can slightly lower blood pressure or cause circulation changes.
Your body type
If you have more Kapha or sluggish metabolism, Ashwagandha’s heavy (guru) nature may not suit you in large amounts.
My suggestions:
See or consult online, with a good Ayurveda doctor for medicine tapering or alterations.
Practice Pranayama (Nadi Shodhana, Bhramari) daily.
Maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle.
Avoid excessive caffeine and late-night screen time.
If severe anxiety persists starting medication under a physician's guidance can help.
Next Steps
Always tailor medicines to your constitution, not just symptoms, under a physician's guidance.
