This is a general question. I consume a full egg (among other things) after my daily workout. But I'm always hearing an argument against consuming eggs. Do eggs pose a risk for those with high LDL cholesterol?

Hello,
Eggs are a whole food and do contain nutrients such as vitamin D, biotin, and protein. Egg yolk does contain cholesterol but if your lipid levels are normal and you exercise regularly than consuming one whole egg throughout the day does not raise your LDL levels. But, the way you consume the egg matters, if you cook it with butter or add cheese or lot of oil for frying then that poses a risk for increase in LDL levels.
Also, it is not the cholesterol from the egg that can be a risk for deranged lipid profile but our lifestyle can be. If you are consuming one whole egg post workout but the foods consumed later throughout the day are high in saturated fats and trans fats then that poses a threat.

Hello,
No they are not, infact they are good sources of iron, vitamin D and biotin.
The only thing is it has to be taken in portion control. Consult a qualified dietitian for the same.

Hi,
You didn't mention level of LDL or lipid profile, without which it is difficult to say specifically. Cholesterol is an important component in our body and which is synthesized by the body and also get from food. One with high cholesterol level or dislipidemia needs to focus on food habit and lifestyle change. Cholesterol can get from egg but it doesn't always provoke LDL cholesterol level, depends upon the person. If HDL cholesterol is fine then there will be no problem to consume whole egg, but not in regular basis.
