I am writing a long 2 months post surgery review.Firstly considering lack of technical understanding in the society and families you need to fight a lot for treatments like refractive surgery which is considered as an elective surgery but only the patient themselves know the pain they are carrying with them and how potentially good the surgery can be.Though I had a relatively low myopia (-6 Cylinder), I went for lens implantation, mostly people I know go for Lasik with such power.I had odd powers - myopia in right eye and light hyperopia ( < 0.5 ) in left due to which I had difficulties in depth perception of the image.I was sceptical about procedure as there were not much reviews and also the idea of keeping a foreign body in the eye is something everyone will want to reconsider their decision. I tried researching a lot about the procedure, read complete quora, medium and infact many of the research papers published in medical science journals. Just before the day of the procedure I visited doctor again to validate all my doubts and measured the risk vs gain ratio.Along the whole process two people helped me a lot Mr. Watson and Mrs Amara. They both are gems. Everytime I visited them, they cleared all my doubts answered precisely even tiny technical details and thus I became confident about the procedure.Another doubt that came lately was the controversial articles of ECD loss at a greater rate (this is something which will scare most of us) but the improvements in the lens designs have eliminated these risks. So yes go ahead with the procedure ( why not ).The surgery was relatively quick. Though I came early in the morning and waited my turn to come (it took less than 10mins for the real procedure). You won't feel even a little pain, just a bit of pressure.I am a person of very little patience and hence during the entire course of recovery I panicked like anything. At times I used to call Mrs Amaravati (sometimes late in the evening but she was always helpful)Usually they say that you get to see things clearly just the next day but for me recovery time was a bit high, around 10 days and the vision became clearer day after day. I attained the maximum vision by this time but still it was not comfortable like the vision I used to have earlier. It took a total of around 35 days for my vision to become comfortable. Now I see along the things with an ease, depth perception like I used had never before. excellent reading vision, can focus easily while playing sports, driving etc.Only a little (negligible halos at the night are there which I will adapt soon)overall quality of my life has increased. The vision is far better than I used to have with glasses on. Thanks Dr Umesh and the team.Readers can personally ask me if they have any doubts.
Visited Dr. Meena Gopinath Menon (Ophthalmologist/ Eye Surgeon)
I had an unsatisfactory experience at Sankara Eye Hospital during my mother’s cataract consultation with Dr. Meena Menon. Despite arriving 10 minutes prior to the reporting time for our 11:00 AM appointment, we faced significant delays.
Post the dilation process that was completed by 12:30 PM, we waited for over two hours for a retina checkup, which included a scan costing Rs. 1700. After this, we were left waiting for Dr. Meena from 3 to 4 PM, only to be informed at 4 PM that she had left at noon. We were then referred to another doctor, leading to further waiting time.
I felt that the communication could have been better. If we were informed earlier about Dr. Meena’s unavailability, we could have rescheduled the appointment. *** ****** ***** ***** ****** ************ ***** ** *** **** *** ***** The staff’s response to my concerns was not satisfactory.
The experience was not up to the standard one would expect from a healthcare facility, especially considering the time for unnecessary waiting when doctor is left. I hope the hospital takes note of this feedback for future improvements.

Well I went for a follow up after my mothers cataract surgery, although there were no problems in the surgery or later visits.
My mother is perfectly all right and I am not doubting the doctors skill set or experience, but I found the doctors behavior offensive and actually rude when you ask questions.
I had a bad experience when I had asked a question to continue with the medications or not because they were steroids which I think I have full right to and his words were "Did I tell you anything else" which simply meant do not ask questions for the service that you have taken. I think I have paid the amount for the surgery I have the right to know how should I keep my mother healthy.
Again I am not questioning the doctors ability this is purely about his behavior towards the patients which I think according to me could be much better. I recommend to take this as a constructive feedback and not get offended again.
I would recommend this hospital to everyone but maybe not the DR. Umesh for that matter.
Visited Dr. Sowmya R (Ophthalmologist/ Eye Surgeon)
I had good experience with dr at time of emergency when my daughter’s eye has some particle stuck in cornea of eye she tried best to remove it but since my daughter is just 4yrs so it was difficult to remove so she recommended cornea specialist in same hospital dr pallavi joshi ... she removed it using needle and without anesthesia.
It was very good experience with both doctors at time of emergency.

In addition there is a confusion with the hospital. Lot of people thinks it's the branch of iconic Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai. Answer is no, although both are under supervision of Kanchi Sheer trust they are managed by completely different set of people. Of course nothing to take away from legendary founder Dr Ramani. Unfortunately on ground it's not even shadow of its founder. It's unprofessionally managed, expect rude behavior, no transparent dealings (no one explains, neither they give u any document!).
Now the best part, hospital runs on 80/20 model, meaning 20% people will pay for balance 80% people medical cost. **** ********* ***** *** ** ***** ***** *** **** **** ****** ** * ******* *********** ** **** ******* **** ******* ********** ** ******** Avoid this hospital if you can pay your cost!
