Known in full as King Edward Memorial Hospital, it was established in 1926 and is a government institution operating in conjunction with Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC), which offers undergraduate, postgraduate and super-specialty medical training in fields including physical and occupational therapy, nursing and allied health sciences.
