HUMBLE BEGINNING=================It all started on an evening in 1948, with Drs. Lourdes and Leslie Fernandez relaxing after a day’s work in the balcony of their home in Bogulkunta, in the heart of Hyderabad. Dr. Leslie proposed to his wife again – this time to start a small clinic in a two-room structure right across the street. Dr. Lourdes, then an obstetrician at Niloufer Hospital, had her apprehensions, but they decided to forge ahead and set up the humble Stork Home Clinic, catering to the local community. Hard work and a strong doctor-patient bond saw the two-bed clinic grow in popularity and expand to 40 beds in a few years. Their clientele also started to include the womenfolk from the Nizam’s nearby King Koti Palace...From these humble beginnings, it grew over the years to 40 beds, at which point they handed over the reins of the hospital to their daughter, Dr. Evita Fernandez. In 1992, the old structures were razed to the ground. On February 12, 1993, the 75th birthday of Dr. Lourdes, she and Dr. Leslie jointly laid the foundation stone of the present building at Bogulkunta, which was inaugurated on August 25, 1996. On January 8, 2011 a second hospital, dedicated to high risk mothers and babies, was opened at Hyderguda.
