Know these facts before undergoing spine surgery

Dear Patients,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. Today, we want to talk to you about spine surgery and what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Spine surgery is a complex and delicate procedure that is typically recommended when conservative treatments have failed to alleviate back pain or when there is a structural issue that requires surgical intervention. The decision to undergo spine surgery should be carefully considered with your physician, and the benefits and risks should be thoroughly discussed.

Before Surgery:

Before surgery, you will have several appointments with your physician to assess your condition and prepare for the surgery. You will undergo a physical exam, as well as diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. These tests will help your surgeon to determine the best course of action for your individual needs. It is also essential that you follow any pre-operative instructions provided by your surgeon, such as refraining from eating or drinking for a certain period before the surgery. You may also be instructed to stop taking certain medications that could interfere with the procedure or increase your risk of bleeding.

During Surgery:

During the procedure, you will be under general anesthesia and asleep. Your surgeon will make an incision in your back to access the spine and perform the necessary repairs. The length and complexity of the surgery will depend on your condition and the type of procedure being performed.

After Surgery:

Following the surgery, you will be moved to a recovery room to be monitored closely as you wake up from the anesthesia. You will then be moved to a hospital room where you will be closely monitored by nurses and other medical professionals. It is normal to experience some pain and discomfort after the surgery. Your healthcare team will work with you to manage your pain and provide medication as needed. You may also be given exercises and physical therapy to help you recover and regain strength and mobility.

It is important to follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure a successful recovery. These may include avoiding certain activities, wearing a brace, or attending physical therapy sessions.

We hope this newsletter has provided you with some helpful information about what to expect during spine surgery. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare team with any questions or concerns.Best wishes for a smooth and successful recovery,

With regards
