Urinary Tract Infection –
It is mostly a Bacterial infection and
The most common Bacteria is - E Coli.
How COMMON?
it is up to 50 to 70% of women will have a UTI during their lifetime
Many will have recurrent UTIs
Twice more common in comparison to males
SYMPTOMS
- Burning in urine
- Increased frequency
- Painful urination
- Pain in the lower part of the abdomen
- Urgency
- May have fever
- May even have blood in the urine
TREATMENT
Consult your urologist
He/she will Prescribe antibiotics, analgesics, and alkaliser
Always inform your doctor about whether you have missed period or not
Usually, symptoms resolve on 3 to 7days
If symptoms doesnot resolve or worsen, you need diagnostic tests, Urine tests and Ultrasound
PREVENTION
- Don’t Hold Urine for long
- Empty it at regular intervals
- If you have the urge to urinate – go for it
a) LOCAL HYGIENE
Keep the genital area clean
When you bathe (daily if possible) wash well
b) PEE
Urinate after sexual intercourse
Clean Genitalia before and after intercourse
Before intercourse also – if full bladder – empty it
c) WIPE – FRONT TO BACK
Be sure to clean yourself carefully after passing motions
Bcoz -wiping from back to front fecal bacteria can reach urinary system
Always wipe from front to back:
This is most important to prevent UTI
By this, you can flush the infection out from the urine
