There can be multiple reason for toothaches. The right thing to do is call your dentist. If you do not have one, use your friends. If it’s after hours, take an appointment. Till you wait to get medical help, what are some of the things that you can do.

  • Taking a painkiller such as Ibuprofen (Combiflam or Flexon) or Crocin. Both of these medications are not only good at cutting down inflammation but also provide pain relief for mild and moderate pain. Only those with bleeding problems or allergy can use alternative medicines.
  • Don’t place tablets or clove inside your mouth to alleviate pain. Holding these against the sore tooth can cause burns in the gingiva.
  • Rinse with saline water to reduce swelling in the gum. Do not place hot compress outside of the face since it can draw infection to the skin and cause more swelling.

Some people with deep caries can have toothaches after eating. For these people, it is best to not let any food article come in contact with tooth as it would worsen it. Sometimes the tooth with deeper cavities and vital pulps would calm down on its own after an hour.

If reaching out to a dentist looks difficult for the time being, then a trip to the emergency room of the hospital is an option, and the doctors there can take care of the pain.
