Unwanted facial and body hair can be a source of distress for both men and women. Since the early 1990 laser has become a widely accepted and a safe method for treatment of excessive hair growth provided it is done by trained hands. Excerpts from the talk with Dr.Anshul Jain , M.D. (Skin) regarding myths about Laser Hair Removal.

Q:Which is the best technology for laser hair reduction [LHR]?

A: All over the world, Diode lasers are the gold standard for Laser Hair Reduction. There are other different lasers available like Nd:YAG and IPL but none meets the results as seen with Diode lasers.

Q:Is Laser Hair Removal painful?

A: There are systems which offer virtually painless hair removal, like SUPRANO PROTM  from ALMA LASERS, world’s first virtually painless laser hair removal system. With other laser machines, pin-pricking or mild stinging or a rubber band “snap” sensation can be felt during and after the procedure.

Q: Are the results permanent?

A: The SUPRANO PRO DIODE laser is US FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on ALL skin types. It’s exclusive IN-MOTION technology with SapphireDualChill tip gives excellent results on all pigmented hair and all skin types-including tanned skin.

Q: How the Diode laser works?

A: It works by safely and gently heating the dermis to a temperature that damages the hair follicle and prevents re-growth, yet does not injure the surrounding skin.

Q: Is the treatment very costly?

A: No, it is much more economical in long-run when compared with use of hair removing cream or waxing.

Q: How many sessions will be needed?

A: Six is the AVERAGE number of sessions. Depending on your skin type, hormone fluctuations, and your own individual hair growth cycles, you may require more sessions.

Q: What are the expected results?

A: Most patients experience an 80-90% reduction in the amount of hair in a given area; it may be 90-99% for underarms and pubic areas. Normally there are just a few very fine hairs that are left.

Q: How frequent the treatment sessions are?

A: The gap between two sessions is 3-6 weeks. Hair grows in three stages and we try to synchronize the hair growth to treat as many hairs as possible with each laser treatment. All hair are not growing at the same time. Anagen, stage of hair growth, is most susceptible to the laser treatment as it absorbs more energy because it contains more pigment than the other surrounding hair.

Q: Can all areas of the body be treated with the laser?

A: Yes, with the exception of the eyelashes due to the proximity of the eyes.
