Subacromial bursitis is theinflammation or irritation of the bursa present below the acromion in theshoulder. Bursa is a pouch filled with greasing fluid located between tissuessuch as bone, muscles, tendons, and skin that reduces rubbing friction andirritation.
Bursitis is most often caused byrepetitive impact on the shoulder or from a sudden serious injury, age alsoplays a role as tendons with old age are less capable to tolerate stress orless elastic and are easier to tear. Some sports in which Subacromial bursitis is commonare- tennis, golf, skiing, cricket, basketball, badminton, etc.
Improper posture at home and poorstretching or conditioning before exercise can also lead to Subacromialbursitis. An abnormal or poorly placed bone or joint can put added stress onthe bursa sac causing bursitis. Stress or inflammation from other conditionssuch as- thyroid disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, or unusualmedication reactions may also increase a person’s risk, in addition, aninfection can also lead to inflammation of a bursa.
