Water is the elixir of life. Drinking water is one of the most important and the easiest ways to keep yourself healthy. Your body uses water to maintain several bodily functions including digestion and metabolism, circulation of oxygen throughout your body, regulating your body temperature, maintaining cellular functions, flushing out toxins from your body through urine and sweat. Drinking adequate water throughout the day is vital. It is recommended that you drink about 2-3 liters or 10-12 glasses of water everyday to maintain a hydrated body. You can practically drink water whenever you feel thirsty any time of the day. But, did you know that drinking water during certain times of the day has more health benefits than drinking water throughout the day? In this health article we discuss what is the right time during the day to drink water.
When hunger strikes - Drink a glass of water when you start feeling hungry at random hours. Many people often tend to confuse thirst with hunger. But, in reality most of the time you are just thirsty and not actually hungry. Drink a glass of water or two to quench your thirst. You can proceed to eat if your hunger persists even after drinking water.
When you get a headache - Headaches most often are a sign of dehydration. Drink up some water to rehydrate your body and also to get rid of the headache.
When you sweat - Sweat is a body mechanism of removing toxins. Also sweat is a mechanism by which your body cools down (temperature regulation) when it is extremely hot. Irrespective of the cause of the sweat, you tend to lose water content from your body as you sweat. It is important to replenish the lost water. So, drink up every time you sweat, be it after a workout session, or exposure to environmental heat.
When you are sick - Whenever you are down with illnesses such as common cold, and infections, your body tends to produce more toxins. It is important to flush out the toxins from the body and drinking lots of water helps flush out these toxins. Moreover, these illnesses also put your body at the risk of dehydration, and drinking water helps you prevent the complications of dehydration.
When you are tired - Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to boost some instant energy. Tiredness is also often a sign of dehydration. Drinking water wards off the sign of dehydration and makes you feel energized and refreshed.
Before and after your daily routine - There are certain activities in a day with which you should make a rule of ‘a glass of water before and after the activity’. Drink a glass of water before the bedtime and immediately after you wake up, drink a glass of water before shower and a glass after shower (this will help maintain your blood pressure), drink a glass of water before your meals to regulate hunger and a glass of water after meals to wash down your meals and boost digestion.
