Dear Readers,
Today is Epilepsy Purple Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy and showing support for those living with the condition. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, yet it remains widely misunderstood and stigmatized.
Purple Day was created in 2008 by Cassidy Megan, a young girl with epilepsy who wanted to increase awareness and dispel myths about the condition. Today, it is celebrated in countries all over the world, with individuals and organizations wearing purple and hosting events to raise awareness.
Epilepsy is a condition that affects the brain and causes seizures. Seizures occur when there is a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain, which can cause a variety of symptoms depending on which part of the brain is affected. While some people with epilepsy may experience only a few seizures in their lifetime, others may have seizures on a daily basis.
Living with epilepsy can be challenging, but with proper treatment and support, many people with the condition are able to lead normal and fulfilling lives. Unfortunately, many people with epilepsy face stigma and discrimination, which can make it difficult for them to access the care and support they need.
On this Epilepsy Purple Day, let us all commit to raising awareness about epilepsy and working to end the stigma that surrounds it. Let us show support for those living with epilepsy and their families, and let us work together to ensure that everyone with epilepsy has access to the care and support they need to live their best lives.
Thank you for joining us in this important effort.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sayuj Krishnan. S
