I start my day with the word DIABETES and also ends with the same word.

Sometimes, I get saturated with it.

Now, wonder HOW WOULD A DIABETIC FEEL LIVING WITH THE DISEASE AND FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ALWAYS GOING AT THE BACK OF MIND.

  1. Are my Sugar/Blood glucose values ok? Whether I have high sugars or my sugars are falling below the desired level?
  2. How will be my HbA1c (3 months sugars) ?
  3. Will, I develop complications from Diabetes ?
  4. Are my Kidneys ok ? ( Usually patients are more worried about Kidneys) and many more things......

Still number of Uncontrolled Diabetics and rising complications from the same is on the rise.. WHY???

As a Diabetologist, I analyse the same again and again and would summarise the same in the following points.

  • Chronic nature of the disease without a proper cure (Only control) makes the patient a bit careless with the disease.
  • Absence of any symptoms in the initial phase of Diabetes.
  • Lack of awareness about the symptoms of the disease.
  • Multiple pills for the control of Diabetes and other associated comorbidities.
  • Rising cost of treatment, adding to the financial burden for the patient.
  • Fatigue on the part of the patient and caregiver due to regular visits with the doctor.
  • Frequent change of doctor by patient in search for the cure of Diabetes.
  • Inertia on the part of Patient and even doctor to timely initiate Insulin.
  • Falling for quacks, claiming cure of Diabetes.
  • Falling prey to uneducated yet vocal person in the near and dear category on "How to control Diabetes?".
  • Jumping between the different systems of Medicines ( Allopathy to Ayurveda to Homeopathy to Allopathy)
  • Turning a blind eye to the disease.

All these concerns mentioned above can be addressed and the TRIO OF DOCTOR- PATIENT- ATTENDANT can work towards Healthy life for a Diabetic.
