The medical name for “Swimmer’s Ear” is “Otitis Externa” – that is, inflammation of the External Ear- from the Concha to the ear drum.

In the summers being in the water/swimming pool for a prolonged period can predispose to Swimmer’s ear.

When water enters the ear, particularly in the presence of previously built up wax, it can lead to a fungal or bacterial infection in the ears.

This usually happens in waters that are not previously treated like beaches, lakes and ponds.

Swimming pool water is treated with Sodium Hypochlorite – whose active ingredient is Chorine- to disinfect the water.
